Does a grade of ‘F’ or ‘D’ transfer to ASU?

Grades of ‘F’ and ‘D’ on transferable courses are used to calculate admission to ASU. However, the transfer course will not count as credit toward your degree plan. ASU degree plans require a grade of ‘C’ or higher on all transferable courses.

What types of exam credit do you accept?

ASU accepts CLEP, ACT, SAT, AP and DSST exams. Each exam has specific requirements in order for credit to be given. Please contact the Office of Admissions for more information.

Am I required to take one of the TSI exams?

Not necessarily. Please refer to the TSI section of our website.

Am I required to live on campus?

Angelo State University has a Housing Policy that requires some students to live on campus for about the first two years (60 semester credit hours). To live off campus, you must meet exemption criteria or have been formally approved for exemption from the Housing Policy. A hold will remain on your registration until you let us know about your living plans. This is true for new as well as returning students. For more information on ASU's Housing Policy and the exemption process, visit the housing policy exemption Web page or contact the Residential Programs Office.

Does ASU have an application deadline?

ASU does not have any specific deadlines. However, students must apply and be admitted by the fourth day of class in order to enroll for that semester.

What is SOAR? Why should I attend?

SOAR stands for Student Orientation, Advising and Registration. SOAR will assist you in the selection of your fall semester courses and university staff will be available to answer your questions.

Where do I go to get my ID card?

The One Card Office is on the second floor of the Hardeman Building. Please call (325) 942-2331 for more information.

Where do I go to get my parking sticker?

Parking Services is located in the West Office Annex (on Johnson Street). You will need to have your driver’s license and know the license plate number, make and model of your vehicle. Please call (325) 486-6435 for more information.

What do NENA, NEAD, NT and NTR mean?

NENA is non-equivalent non-advanced.
NEAD is non-equivalent advanced.
NT is non-transferable coursework.
NTR is non-transferable remedial coursework.

NENA and NEAD courses are considered transferable courses, but may not always apply toward an ASU degree plan. Students are encouraged to work closely with their advisor to see if these courses can be applied to their specific degree plan.

What do you need before you can make a decision?

Before we can make a decision on any student, we must have an application, application fee and copies of all transcripts from the institutions the student has attended. The Office of Admissions can accept copies of unofficial transcripts in order to make the decision, but will need official copies to complete a student’s file. All transcripts become the property of Angelo State University once submitted and cannot be returned to the applicant.

What scholarships are available to transfer students?

Several scholarships, such as the Transfer Advantage Scholarship and Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, are available to transfer students. For more information, visit the Student Financial Aid website.

Can I make a fresh start at ASU?

Students who were enrolled in a post-secondary institution 10 or more years ago may seek admission to ASU without consideration of that academic work (Section 51.931 of the Texas Education Code). You must request this option prior to your enrollment at ASU by submitting a Fresh Start Request Form. You must report and submit all your college transcripts with your application for admission.

Hours excluded under the Fresh Start option may still be used to claim exemption from the Texas Higher Education Assessment Test. Contact the Office of Admissions for more information.

Do dual credit hours count toward the minimum 18 hours that I need to apply as a transfer student?

Angelo State will only count dual credit hours toward the minimum 18 hours if the student has graduated from high school and is attending a college or university.
