Accounting Degree

Every business needs an accountant. At ASU, students not only acquire accounting skills and information, they also learn the ability to analyze the economic activity of an organization or business.

The U.S. Department of Labor reports that demands for accountants and auditors are expected to increase as a result of stricter accounting and auditing regulations as well as an expanding economy. Graduates are expected to have excellent job prospects.  

The accounting program is based in the ASU Rassman Building and all lecture rooms are smart classrooms equipped with surround sound and digital technology capabilities. The department also has a fully-equipped computer lab.

In addition to accountancy, students may opt to pursue careers as attorneys, business consultants or treasurers, among others. Angelo State University offers accounting majors a choice of degree plans: 

Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting Major

This option is for students interested in receiving the general education and technical knowledge necessary to start an accounting career. Curriculum includes statistical analysis, the processes of federal and state government, financial management and general accounting. Graduates may work in any type of business as well as not-for-profit organizations, such as hospitals, charities or universities.

Five-year Bachelor of Business Administration/Master of Business Administration in Accounting program, Master of Business Administration in Accounting or Master of Professional Accountancy

Curriculum includes advanced accounting problems, tax research methodology and applied auditing, among other subjects. Students graduating under these degree plans meet the state requirement to take the Certified Public Accountant Examination. A CPA license is a respected credential and viewed favorably during hiring decisions, even in businesses and not-for-profit organizations where the credential is not required.
