Agriculture

The ASU Agriculture Department believes the best way to learn is to get first-hand experience. That is why more than half of our classes have laboratories, and most of those labs are conducted outdoors in our extensive ag facilities. By the time our students graduate, they have a comprehensive knowledge of agricultural processes from pasture to plate.

Research Facilities

Most of our labs are taught at the Management, Instruction and Research (MIR) Center, a facility that sits on 6,000 acres of range and farm land. The center includes everything from a feed mill and traditional laboratories to a food product development lab and an elevated multimedia classroom.

Experienced Faculty

The department’s faculty not only have real-world agriculture experience, they are also dedicated to research. Their interests vary from food-borne pathogen antimicrobial resistance and decreasing reproductive wastage in livestock to cost-effective wildlife management and agriculture marketing stability. Faculty also work with students who are developing their own research projects.

Career Opportunities

ASU offers agriculture career paths for those interested in animal science and food production, natural resource management, agribusiness or teaching agriculture. By the time our students graduate, they have the knowledge to be successful in the industry or to go on to graduate school.

Our master’s degree in animal science is flexible to accommodate each student’s research interests. The program prepares students for careers in the agriculture industry, government services, business or teaching at the junior college level.

The Agriculture Department awards scholarships that total more than $73,000 annually.
