Research and Facilities
The Management, Instruction, and Research (MIR) Center is located approximately 6 miles north of San Angelo on the North Shore of O.C. Fisher Lake. The MIR Center consists of 6,000 acres of range and farmland leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Currently, the center is managed for environmental quality, production of cattle, sheep and goats, and wildlife habitat.
The MIR Center serves as a teaching facility for most Animal Science and Range Management courses. Facilities offer students the opportunity for "hands-on" training in Agriculture.
The MIR Center also hosts numerous field days and producer-oriented meetings and training sessions. The public is welcome to tour the facilities and observe demostration sites located on the center. All tours must be approved by the Director of the MIR Center.
The MIR Center is also the site of numerous Agriculture research projects in Agriculture directed toward improving management decisions of livestock producers and natural resource managers of West Texas.
