The ASU College of Arts and Sciences emphasizes educational programs to prepare students for living and working in a global society. The following departments make up the college:

The College of Arts and Sciences also administers the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree program. In addition to bachelor’s degree programs in each of the departments listed, the college also offers five master’s degrees.

College Mission

The mission statement for the College of Arts and Sciences was unanimously approved by the faculty on 11 January 2013.

The mission of the college is to promote engagement, inquiry, knowledge, and service in the arts and sciences.  The college provides the university with high-quality general education courses; develops in its students a depth of knowledge within and a breadth of knowledge across disciplines; fosters creative activity, scholarship, critical inquiry, and service; and supports programs and experiences which enable students both to be successful in their studies and to become engaged, productive citizens.

Undergraduate Learning goals

The undergraduate learning goals for the College of Arts and Sciences were unanimously approved by the faculty on 11 January 2013.

  1. Students will exhibit broad knowledge and skills across a variety of fields of study in areas appropriate to their degree and major.
  2. Students will demonstrate general proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking, and computer literacy.
  3. Students will develop deep knowledge and skills in one or more identified fields of study sufficient to prepare them for entry into the workforce or into graduate or professional programs.
  4. Students will understand and exhibit personal, professional, and social responsibility both as students and as citizens.
