Ben Sum joined the ASU art faculty in 2005. He teaches course work in computer graphics. Before moving to San Angelo, Mr. Sum was a member of the art faculty at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. In addition to teaching art foundation courses at Western Texas College, Mr. Sum organized the West Texas High School Art Competition which was sponsored annually by the WTC Art Department beginning in 1992. He was the art director for the college marketing department producing recruiting videos, printed materials, and billboards. While in Snyder, Mr. Sum designed and completed a mural project for East Elementary School and a 29-foot mural in the college cafeteria. Mr. Sum has also conducted figure drawing and portraiture workshops in the West Texas area and at the Hong Kong Visual Art Center and participated in mural projects in Hong Kong.
An active artist, Mr. Sum has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and overseas. He is a recipient of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council grant. Mr. Sum’s artwork is held in both public and private collections.
