Music
ASU music students have the opportunity to play in solo and ensemble programs as well as expand their knowledge of music theory, performance techniques and teaching methods.
Talented Faculty
Our music faculty are highly qualified professionals who have not only performed throughout the country and the world, but also use teaching methods that have been proven effective with music students. They also provide one-on-one lessons for selected students.
Spacious Playing Facilities
The music program has large ensemble rooms for band and choir practice. The program is also conveniently located near the marching fields for the ASU Ram Band. Students have several opportunities to play throughout the year at venues that vary from sports events to on-campus concert areas and community recital halls.
Opportunities to Play
The ASU music program focuses on band, choir and piano, and students can choose the music groups that best fit their interests. In addition to the marching band and basketball band, the program has wind, trumpet, percussion and jazz ensembles as well as brass and flute choirs. ASU music faculty lead all the ensembles. The department also hosts an annual band camp that draws hundreds of area students to the campus every summer.
Serious Careers
Music students develop skills in gathering and analyzing information, conveying complex information, directing performances and, of course, creating and performing music. The ASU music program has had a 100 percent pass rate and a 100 percent placement rate the past eight years for students who have worked toward their teacher certification. Some students have started careers as band directors, conductors or musical event coordinators.
