ASU Woodwinds

Welcome to the Woodwind Division of ASU’s Art and Music Department. Please read through our information about the exciting activities and events available in our department as well as links to documents and information for current students and prospective students.

If you are a woodwind player in high school, we especially want to draw your attention to our annual Woodwind Festival, an event not to be missed.

Woodwind Groups

Flute Choir
The Flute Choir is directed by Dr. Constance Kelley and is open to all members of the student body who play the flute and seek a venue for musical expression through teamwork.

Repertoire for this ensemble is selected from standard literature, transcriptions and new compositions as well as from arrangements for the flute family and occasional guests.

The Flute Choir performs in regularly scheduled Woodwind Chamber Ensemble concerts and in community outreach efforts. For more information, contact Dr. Kelley.

The Mesquite Trio
This group formed in 2007 to promote chamber music and to support new compositions. Its members, Dr. Constance Kelley, Dr. Timothy Bonenfant and Dr. Jeff Womack, are the woodwind faculty in ASU’s Department of Art and Music.

The Trio frequently performs recitals, community engagements and masterclasses, both locally and statewide. In October 2008, The Mesquite Trio, along with pianist Dr. Eleanor Elkins, premiered works by Dr. Stephen Emmons, ASU’s resident theorist/composer, in a series of recitals performed in New Mexico and Texas.
