Symphony Orchestra


The Angelo State Symphony provides an exceptional orchestral experience to ASU students. The symphony plays a variety of orchestral music, ranging from standard masterworks to modern literature. The symphony performs a minimum of 4 concerts per year, as well as educational programs and university outreach concerts. The ensemble also performs at the Annual ASU Tree lighting ceremony. Through its concerts, the ASU Symphony fosters an appreciation for music and enrichment of the academic and local communities.


Rehearsals occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:50 pm at the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, Room 134.

Spring 2018 AUDITIONS (new members only)

Auditions for Spring 2018 for strings, trumpets, horns, clarinets, oboe, and percussion will be held on January 16, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, during the first rehearsal time. Auditions are open to all qualified ASU students, regardless of their academic major.

Audition Materials

  • Solo (student’s choice, 1-3 minutes in length)
  • Hector Berlioz - Hungarian March from Damnation of Faust, Op. 24

Limited scholarships are available.


The symphony hosts an Annual Concerto Competition in the Spring semester, open to all music majors. The winners are featured as soloists with the ASU Symphony. The next Concerto Competition will be held on January 31, 4:00 pm at the Eldon Black Recital Hall.

A limited number of instruments is available for check out for those who don’t currently own one.


Limited scholarships are available by audition.
