This degree requires a minimum of 130 hours with a minimum of 39 advanced hours.

Biology as a Teaching Field with Secondary Certification A student who chooses biology for a second teaching field must complete the following courses: Biology 1480, 2401, 2402, 2403, 3301, 4181, 4303, 4451, and four additional advanced semester hours in biology.

Biology as an Academic Specialization with Elementary CertificationA student who chooses biology for an academic specialization must complete the following courses: Biology 1410, 1411, and ten additional semester hours, nine of which must be advanced. Recommended advanced courses include: 3301, 3101, 3305, 3333, 3461, 4381, 4412, 4435. Students should enroll in advanced courses during the junior year.

* Chemistry requirement may also be satified by Chemistry 1411, 1412, 3151, 3351, 3152, 3352, and 4331. These courses would also satisfy the requirement for a minor (supporting concentration)
** Can be courses in any discipline other than biology
*** Students must have been admitted to the teacher education program and must be currently satisfying admission standards before being allowed to enroll in either Education 4322 or 4323.
