Hello there and thank you for taking the time to review the pre-health professions program at Angelo State University. If you are interested in becoming a physician, dentist, optometrist, podiatrist, physician's assistant, we can help you achieve your goals. To help prepare you for a career in health professions, Angelo State University offers a rigorous academic program, known statewide for its ability to challenge and encourage students to succeed. As a student of the health professions at Angelo State University, you can choose from a variety of medically related courses that will not only prepare you for advanced courses in health professions schools, but also prepare you for the entrance exams required to obtain admission into these advanced programs. You may also take advantage of Angelo State University's local resources and connections by performing undergraduate research with nationally recognized faculty and volunteering with many local health care professionals in a number of health care areas. These opportunities will help you gain the valuable practical experience you will need in the broadening health care field.

Allied Health Sciences - General Information

Physical Therapy

Dr. Marsh can provide you with information and course prerequisites for all the PT programs in Texas, INCLUDING the Master of Physical Therapy program at ASU which welcomed its first class in Summer, 2000. He can also advise you about possible majors, since there is no undergraduate major in Physical Therapy at ASU. For more detailed information check out the ASU Physical Therapy Department's website.

Occupational Therapy

Dr. Marsh can also provide you with information and course prerequisites for all the OT programs in Texas, as well as advice about possible majors, since there is no undergraduate major in Occupational Therapy at ASU.

Radiological Sciences

Students wanting to pursue a career in the radiological sciences (i.e. X-Ray, MRI, CT technicians) may take prequisitie courses at ASU and then apply for admission to vocational schools where you may complete your training. Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas offers associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees in this area.

Dental Hygiene

A student wishing to pursue Dental Hygiene as a career may take prerequisite courses at ASU, then apply for admission to Dental Hygiene (vocation) schools, where you will complete your actual DH training. Dr. Marsh has information about such course prerequisites and about DH schools in Texas.



STUDENTS INTERESTED IN:

Pharmacy are advised by the Department of Chemistry.
Veterinary medicine are advised by the Department of Agriculture.
