The Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program offers a broad perspective on business management. The MBA curriculum is designed to develop and enhance the business skills and knowledge that are valuable to managers, executives, and administrators in both the profit and non-profit sectors of the economy.
The MBA program is open to all applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, regardless of their undergraduate field of study. We welcome applications from students with diverse undergraduate backgrounds, including the sciences, liberal arts, humanities, business, engineering and education.
The MBA program is an interdisciplinary business program, with course work in accounting, marketing, management, finance, economics, the legal and social environment of business, data analytics, and management information systems. International business and business ethics are integrated throughout the MBA curriculum.
The educational emphasis of the MBA program is on organizational decision making and leadership. The program is appropriate for those pursuing or seeking a career at the executive level in either public or private organizations.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with an overall GPA of 2.5 or better, or a GPA of 2.5 or better for the last 60 hours of undergraduate work . Applicants must also submit either a GMAT score of 500 or an equivalent score on the GRE. In addition to submitting GMAT/GRE test scores and official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, applicants must provide a copy of a current professional résumé.

Waiver of GMAT Requirement
The GMAT score requirement will be waived for those students who have an undergraduate overall GPA of 3.0 or better, or for those with an undergraduate overall GPA of 2.5 or better and at least three years of meaningful business experience. The GMAT score requirement will also be waived for those students who already hold an advanced degree from an accredited institution.
MBA Learning Goals and Curriculum
Upon successful completion of the MBA degree program, our graduates should be able to:

- Demonstrate knowledge of the global nature of business

To achieve these learning goals, students must complete 10 required courses for a total of 30 semester credit hours. There are no elective courses in the MBA program. The required courses are:

MGMT 6301 – Management Information Systems
MGMT 6302 – Legal and Social Environment of Business
MGMT 6303 – Advanced Data Analytics

MGMT 6312 – Operations and Supply Chain Management
MGMT 6313 – Strategic Management in a Global Environment (capstone)
MKTG 6301 – Marketing Management
All MBA courses are offered in both online and face-to-face/hybrid delivery modes. The online sections are offered in five 8-week terms throughout the year (Fall I, Fall II, Spring I, Spring II, and Summer). The face-to-face/hybrid MBA sections are offered in traditional 16-week terms during the Fall and Spring, and in a single 8-week term during the Summer. MBA students are free to choose to enroll in either an online section or a face-to-face section at any time. This give students considerable flexibility in completing the program. Part-time students generally take only 2 courses during the Fall or Spring, while full-time students will take 4 courses per long semester. More information on course sequencing.
Those students who hold an undergraduate business degree should be prepared to start the MBA curriculum without any foundation courses. For those who do not hold an undergraduate business degree, the following foundation requirements must be completed:
Fundamentals of Economics
Understanding Corporate Finance
Principles of Management
Principles of Marketing
Business Math and Statistics
Each of these foundation requirements can be completed by successfully completing the appropriate IVY online modules. The self-paced IVY modules can be found online at www.ivysoftware.com. Once each module has been completed with a minimum grade of 80, a completion certificate should be submitted to the MBA Director.
Some of these foundation requirements may be waived by the MBA Director for those students who can demonstrate successful prior course work in these areas. The foundation requirements for each student are determined on a case-by-case basis. It is generally expected that the student will complete all the necessary foundation requirements before they will be permitted to enroll in an MBA course.
As part of the College’s assessment process, all MBA students must complete and pass the Major Field Test for the MBA (MFT-MBA). The MFT-MBA is administered as part of the MBA capstone course, MGMT 6313. In addition, MBA students must complete the MBA program exit survey in order to graduate.
Up to nine semester credit hours of graduate work completed prior to the date of first admission to the MBA program at Angelo State University may be accepted for transfer credit. After the date of first admission to the MBA program, six semester hours may be accepted for transfer credit. The maximum total transfer credit allowed is nine semester credit hours. The rest of the transfer policies of the College of Graduate Studies and Research also apply.
