The Community Development Scholarship
ASU Community Development Initiatives (CDI) invites students to apply for the first annual CDI Scholarship for $1,000. CDI will award the scholarship to a full-time ASU student in September of 2010. The purpose of the scholarship is to help pay the cost of tuition, fees, and books. The scholarship winner will receive $500 of the award for the fall 2010 semester and $500 for the spring 2011 semester.
Submit all application materials by September 15, 2010 to Dr. David Sanders, Community Development Initiatives, ASU WED Center, 5301 Knickerbocker Rd., San Angelo, Texas 76904.
CDI offers these scholarships to deserving students selected by a committee comprised of three WED Center faculty members and two representatives of the community. The scholarship committee will select a student who demonstrates a strong desire to contribute substantially to the development of local communities.
Qualification requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be A full-time ASU student enrolled in at least 12 undergraduate semester hours or 9 graduate semester hours.
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5, or better, in all undergraduate academic subjects and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in their masters’ program.
- Major in business, communication, criminal justice, finance, history, kinesiology, mass media, nursing, political science, psychology, social work, or sociology.
Application requirements
To apply, students must submit the following:
- Two letters of recommendation. Letters should address your desire to engage in service to the community as well as your skills and abilities. Address the letters to the Community Development Scholarship Committee. You must return the letters with your application.
- A one to two page essay (500-1000 words). The essay should address your educational and professional goals as they relate to community development. The essay must include statements that demonstrate your willingness to participate in a community development project at the WED Center or CDI.
- The following forms. Fill in the student information section of the FERPA WAIVER form. Sign and date the form. Return the form with your application to provide the Community Development Scholarship Committee with access to your educational records.
