Academic Advising

Suggested steps to prepare you for advising*

  1. Use the Online Class Schedule search for a list of classes offered. Select to view the Fall 2008 or Spring 2009 semester.
  2. Complete the Longterm Course Planning Form.
  3. Advising will open in October, please be checking this website for group advising instructions. For a complete list of registration dates, please refer to these Important Dates.
  4. All students must attend a Group Advisng Session. If you are unable to attend, you must schedule an appointment with your Academic Advisor. To identify the name of your advisor, office number, and office hours please view the
    Undergraduate Faculty Advising Schedule.
  5. From the ASU website (www.angelo.edu), login to RamPort, then RAMS Login, then Student Services. There you will find a menu that includes Student Records. This will take you to a menu that includes online Official Degree Plan. Be sure you have an Official Degree Plan and if not, please follow the instructions on #1 of the Advising Form.
  6. If you have already applied for an official degree plan, a Detailed Degree Evaluation will be generated. Click on Degree Evaluation in the Student Records menu and follow the prompts to generate a new one for your ICDL major. This will tell you what courses and other requirements that you have successfully completed as well as other requirements you still need. Print the Detailed Degree Evaluation to assist in planning.
  7. You will need to print an Unofficial Academic Transcript which can be accessed from the Student Records menu.
  8. Use the schedule and degree evaluation to select courses. Complete two copies of the student advising form, one for you and one for your advisor.
  9. Take the documents (long term course planning form, detailed degree evaluation, unofficial academic transcript, and 2 completed advising forms) to your Group Advising Session. If you are unable to attend group advising, take the completed documents to your Academic Advisor.
  10. Your advising hold will be removed after you have attended one of the group advising sessions. One signed copy of the form remains with the advisor. You can then complete your registration online or in the Registrar's Office.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact the Department of Curriculum & Instruction (325-942-2647) or the Department of Teacher Education (325-942-2052). We will be very happy to assist you.

*Note: Students who are unable to meet with their assigned advisors during posted office hours need to contact the advisor by email or phone to schedule an appointment.
