    Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction

    Advanced Instructor

    The M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction, Advanced Instructor program offers a Graduate-Level degree designed to help professionals develop their expertise in planning, organizing, managing, evaluating and improving programs through curriculum development, staff development and research. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the candidate.

    Professional Education

    The M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction, Professional Education program, allows certified teachers to earn a Master’s degree and combine the necessary content hours required to teach High School Dual-Credit courses. This degree also prepares individuals to teach course at the two-year or community college level.


    Master of Education in Educational Administration

    The M.Ed in Educational Administration program is designed for candidates interested in careers as educational administrators, such as Principals, Superintendents or School Administrators. Candidates have the option upon completion of this degree to take the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) for the Professional Certificate for Principals.  Candidates also have the option of completing the degree without certification and must speak to an advisor about the options available.

    Candidates must complete a minimum of 36 semester credit hours of graduate work, including all academic requirements, and must submit proof of two years of classroom teaching experience to be eligible for the TExES Principal exam. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the candidate.


    Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling

    The M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling program is designed for candidates interested in careers as public school counselors, college and university counselors, and other positions in counseling..

    Candidates have the option upon completion of the degree to take the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) for the Professional Certificate for School Counselors. Candidates must complete a minimum of 36 semester credit hours of graduate work, including all academic requirements for the Professional Certificate for School Counselors. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the candidate.


    Master of Education in Student Development and Leadership in Higher Education

    The M.Ed. in Student Development and Leadership in Higher Education program prepares graduate candidates for work in the non-academic arena of college campuses, which includes leadership positions in such areas as career services, enrollment management, residential programs and candidate development.

    Graduates may find employment in a variety of settings, from community colleges to research universities, and they will be prepared to matriculate in a doctoral-level program. Candidates must complete a minimum of 36 semester credit hours of graduate work for this degree. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the candidate.

  • Certification Plans

    Academic Advising Certificate

    The Academic Advising Certificate is a graduate-level plan for candidates interested in working as Academic Advisors in Institutions of Higher Education.  This is a 15-hour certificate plan.


    Texas Principal Certification Plan

    Advising:  Educator Preparation Information (EPI) Center

    Candidates who already have a master’s degree can be placed in this plan to complete the requirements for principal certification. The program plan will list the courses candidates need to complete the certification purposes. Candidates will receive certification after successfully completing the coursework and passing the TExES Principal examination. For more information, contact the Graduate Advisor. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the candidate.


    Texas School Counselor Certification Plan

    Candidates who already have a master’s degree can enter this plan to complete the requirements for School Counseling Certification. The plan will list the courses candidates need to complete the certification process. Candidates will receive certification after successfully completing the coursework and passing the TExES Counseling exam. For more information, contact the Graduate Advisor. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the candidate. 


    Texas Superintendent Certification Plan

    In addition to graduate school entrance requirements and department requirements, individuals seeking admission to the Superintendent Certificate Plan must hold a Principal Certificate or its equivalent. The Superintendent Certificate Plan uses an online format, with the online coursework supplemented by working with a local superintendent in the candidate’s area. A practicum is also required. After completing the required course work, candidates must receive a passing score on the TExES Superintendent exam. For more information, contact the Graduate Advisor. 


    Texas Teacher Certification Plan

    Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher can enter this plan to complete the requirements for Texas Teacher Certification. The plan will list the courses candidates need to complete the certification process. Candidates will receive certification after successfully completing the coursework, student teaching or internship and passing the required TExES exams. For more information, contact the Graduate Advisor. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the candidate.
