Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling
Advisor: Dr. Mary McGlamery
The Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling program is designed for students interested in careers as public school counselors or licensed professional counselors in private practice. Students who earn this degree will be eligible to take the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) for the Professional Certificate for School Counselors. Students must complete a minimum of 36 semester credit hours of graduate work, including all academic requirements for the Professional Certificate for School Counselors. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the student.
Master of Education in School Administration (Principal)
Advisor: Dr. Richard Bain
The Master of Education in School Administration program is designed for students interested in careers as public school administrators. Students who earn this degree will be eligible to take the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) for the Professional Certificate for Principals.
Students must complete a minimum of 39 semester credit hours of graduate work, including all academic requirements, and must submit proof of two years of classroom teaching experience to be eligible for the TExES Principal exam. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the student.
Students who have received the Professional Certificate for Principals are eligible for the Superintendency Cohort program at ASU. Contact the College of Education office for more information.
Master of Education in Student Development and
Leadership in Higher Education
Advisor: Dr. Alaric Williams
This program prepares graduate students for work in the non-academic arena of college campuses, which includes leadership positions in such areas as career services, enrollment management, residential programs and student development.
Graduates may find employment in a variety of settings, from community colleges to research universities, and they will be prepared to matriculate in a doctoral-level program. Students must complete a minimum of 36 semester credit hours of graduate work for this degree. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the student.
Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction
Advisor: Dr. Kim Livengood
The Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction program offers the option to apply to the Educator Preparation Program for Teacher Certification. The certification program is designed for those who have a bachelor’s degree and are interested in teaching. You must have a bachelor’s degree that includes 24 semester credit hours in a particular subject area to begin the process. All courses offered in the program are delivered through an online format for the convenience of the student.
Principal Certification
Advisor: Dr. Richard Bain
Students who already have a master’s degree can be placed in this program to complete the requirements for principal certification. The program plan will list the courses students need to complete the certification purposes. Students will receive certification after successfully completing the coursework and passing the TExES Principal examination. For more information, contact the program advisor. Superintendent Certification
Advisor: Department of Curriculum and Instruction
In addition to graduate school entrance requirements and department requirements, individuals seeking admission to the Superintendent Certificate Program must hold a Principal Certificate or its equivalent. The Superintendent Certificate Program uses an online format, with the online coursework supplemented by working with a local superintendent in the student’s area. A practicum is also required. After completing the required course work, students must receive a passing score on the TExES Superintendant exam. For more information, contact the program advisor. Guidance and Counseling Certification

Students who already have a master’s degree can enter this program to complete the requirements for School Counseling Certification.
