Dr. Jim Summerlin

Dr. Summerlin, Department Head of Curriculum & Instruction, began his career at ASU in May of 2007.

Dr. Summerlin holds an Ed.D. in educational administration from Baylor University, a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Texas-San Antonio, master's in education from Schreiner University as well as a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana Tech University.

This move to ASU marks the return for Jim to San Angelo where he was stationed at Goodfellow AFB for intelligence training. His 21-year career as an engineer and program manager also included stops in England, Germany, Spain and Turkey. Following retirement, he spent almost nine years in the private sector and supervised security systems engineering at places such as Fort Knox, Camp David, Buckingham Palace, U.S. embassies in Central America and the National Security Agency.

Upon returning to education, Dr. Summerlin taught high school math and physics in the San Antonio area, was an adjunct professor of mathematics at Northwest Vista College as well as an adjunct professor of education at Schreiner University. He joined the faculty at Sul Ross State University in 2004.

Jim looks forward to teaching graduate classes in School Law as well as in School Finance.
