Official Transcript
First-year undergraduate students (freshmen) should request that their secondary schools mail their official transcript(s), mark sheets or graduation certificates, complete with the school’s seal and signature of the registrar, to ASU’s Center for International Studies. Photocopies not bearing the original mark or seal of the school are not acceptable.
A student entering as a transfer student from another accredited U.S. college, university or junior college must supply an official sealed transcript from each school attended, including secondary or high school work.
To determine if non-U.S. college credit is transferable to ASU, an applicant must have transcripts evaluated by a credentials evaluation service. The preferred service is Foreign Credential Services of America, but any company in the United States is acceptable. Evaluations must be completed in English and include semester credit hours and letter grades. The approximate cost is U.S. $175 for a full evaluation.
All transcripts become the property of Angelo State University once submitted and cannot be returned to the applicant.
English Language Proficiency
Since all classes at ASU are conducted in English, it is essential that every applicant who is not a native speaker have a sufficient knowledge of the English language. Applicants can demonstrate English proficiency by fulfilling one of the options listed below:
- Satisfactory completion of the English Language Learner’s Institute (ELLI) program at ASU
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Scores: a minimum of 550 (paper-based) or a minimum of 79 (Internet-based)
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Scores: a minimum of 6.5 overall
- Official transcript showing graduation from an accredited U.S. high school attended for a minimum of three years
- Official transcript from an overseas U.S. Department of Defense school showing graduation (must have attended for a minimum of three years)
- Official transcript of U.S. associate's, bachelor's, master's or doctoral program (degree must be posted)
- An International Baccalaureate (IB): grade 5 or higher
- English 1301 (English Composition) and English 1302 (Writing across the Curriculum) transferred from a regionally accredited U.S. institution that count for transfer credit at ASU (not ESL/ELL courses) with grades of "B" or better.
SAT or ACT Examination
ACT or SAT I scores must also be submitted by a first-year undergraduate applicant (freshman) with a minimum English sub-score of 17 on the ACT or a minimum Critical Reading score of 430 on the SAT I. There is no composite score requirement for either exam. ASU does not use the writing section of either exam (ACT or SATI) for admission to the university.
The institutional codes for Angelo State University are:
SAT and TOEFL: 6644
ACT: 4164
The testing agencies should mail official exam results to the address listed below:
Angelo State University
Center for International Studies
ASU Station #11035
San Angelo, TX 76909-1035
Exams should be taken at least eight weeks prior to the appropriate application deadline to ensure timely receipt and processing of results. The best exam score will be used for admission purposes.
College or university students (transferring to ASU from a U.S. or a foreign institution) may not be required to take the ACT or SAT I exam. The Center for International Studies will determine if a prospective transfer student is exempt from this requirement.
Official Financial Statement Form
This form must be completed by the applicant’s sponsor guaranteeing the applicant’s financial support while in the United States. A bank statement or other certified proof of financial support (i.e., letter from a bank), with amounts in U.S. dollars, must also be attached and include an original signature.
The amount of funding (without scholarship assistance) that needs to be made available by the sponsor is U.S. $26,500.

Once the Form I-20 is received, applicants will need to make the appropriate Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee payments and schedule an appointment with the U.S. Embassy to apply for an F-1 student visa.
