Participants must be full-time students pursuing a degree at Angelo State University. Selection of students will be the responsibility of the faculty director(s) and will be based on a number of criteria, including, but not limited to, the student’s classification, academic program, previous foreign language experience, international education experience and grade point average as well as the student’s willingness to contribute to the group effort.
The faculty director(s) will be especially concerned with providing international education opportunities to students who have had no prior study abroad experience.
Students are expected to have completed two full semesters at ASU, have earned at least 30 semester credit hours and have a GPA of 2.50.
Students must apply for a study abroad program to be considered. An initial screening by the director(s) will result in a group being selected for personal interviews. Upon selection, students will make their initial deposit of $500.
The application deadline is Nov. 14, 2014.
Personal interviews with the program director(s) will be scheduled after the application deadline.
Student costs will vary by program with the final amount determined early in the spring semester before the program’s departure. Approximate costs will be provided to students at the time of application. Students will be expected to pay a $500 non-refundable deposit once they have been accepted into the program, usually payable prior to the end of the fall term preceding the program. The remainder of student costs will be split into two installments: $1500 due on the first Monday of February and the second payment amount and due date will be determined by the individual programs.
The initial deposit is considered a student’s commitment to the program, and all final arrangements for the program will be made on the student’s behalf. If students withdraw their applications, they will be responsible for any additional costs incurred on their behalf beyond the initial deposit.
Students are responsible for standard tuition and fees and personal spending money.
All students must obtain a health clearance from the ASU Health Clinic or from their physician. Students must complete the Confidential Health History Form and receive a signed Health Clearance Form by March 1, 2013. The Health Clearance Form should be turned in at the Center for International Studies.
International Studies Scholarship
All students participating in study abroad programs are eligible to apply for International Studies Scholarships.
Students are responsible for adhering to these additional requirements if accepted into a study abroad program:
All students are required to sign a standard waiver releasing ASU and all related parties from any and all liabilities arising from the program.
Health insurance covering international travel is required for students studying abroad. Students must pay their fee by a date specified by the Center for International Studies.
Students are responsible for getting their own passports. Students can get the applications for passports and the necessary photos at the Center for International Studies (CIS). The CIS will process their applications. A passport costs $135 ($110 plus $25 application fee). Pictures are an additional cost. Students should apply for their passports early.
The study abroad programs are offered as an integral part of ASU’s academic program, and participants are subject to and required to abide by all policies and provisions in the University Catalog, including Student Life Regulations and Policies. Participants are also responsible for obeying the local and national laws of the country in which they are traveling as well as conducting themselves in a manner consistent with local customs.
