Summer Study Abroad
Pertinent Information

Target Students, Selection and Eligibility

Participants must be full-time students pursuing a degree at Angelo State University. Selection of students will be the responsibility of the faculty director(s) and will be based on a number of criteria, including, but not limited to, the student’s classification, academic program, previous foreign language experience, international education experience and grade point average as well as the student’s willingness to contribute to the group effort.

The faculty director(s) will be especially concerned with providing international education opportunities to students who have had no prior study abroad experience.

Students are expected to have completed two full semesters at ASU, have earned at least 30 semester credit hours and have a GPA of 2.75.

Application Procedure and Dates

Students must apply for a study abroad program to be considered. An initial screening by the director(s) will result in a group being selected for personal interviews. Upon selection, students will make their initial deposit.

Application Deadline

The application deadline is Nov. 11, 2011.

Personal Interviews

Personal interviews with the program director(s) will be scheduled after the application deadline.

Student Costs

Student costs will vary by program with the final amount determined early in the spring semester before the program's departure. Approximate costs will be provided to students at the time of application. Students will be expected to pay a $500 deposit once they have been accepted into the program, usually payable prior to the end of the fall term preceding the program. The remainder of student costs will be split into two installments: one due on the first Monday of February and the second on the first Monday of March.

The initial deposit is considered a student’s commitment to the program, and all final arrangements for the program will be made on the student’s behalf.  If students withdraw their applications, they will be responsible for any additional costs incurred on their behalf beyond the initial deposit.

Health Clearance

All students must obtain a health clearance from the ASU Health Clinic or from their physician. Students must complete the Confidential Health History Form and receive a signed Health Clearance Form by March 1, 2012. The Health Clearance Form should be turned in at the Center for International Studies.
