Your Studies

The communication program offers a wide range of undergraduate courses. To get specific information about the areas covered in class, read the communication course descriptions.

Communication faculty members strive to teach students to think critically, communicate effectively and develop the essential skills for successful careers and rewarding lives.

The communication program offers two degree plans:

Communication Graduate Program

Our department also offers a Master of Arts degree in communication. The program prepares students for careers in media industries or higher education as well as for study at the doctorate level.

Courses in the graduate program cover a variety of topics, including interpersonal, intercultural, small group and organizational communication.  Other courses explore emerging communication technology, gender communication, communication ethics, communication research methods (quantitative, qualitative and critical/rhetorical) and more.

Facilities and Equipment

Our department features a computer lab, digital television facilities, an Internet radio station and a comprehensive photography lab with digital capabilities.

Career Opportunities

A communication degree prepares students for careers as public relations specialists, public information officers, writers, editors, advertising specialists or counselors, among others. A teacher certification option is also available.

Our department also helps students obtain internships at radio and TV stations, newspapers, magazines and corporations in the community. This real-world experience is crucial to students who want to jump-start their careers.
