  • Presidential Scholars (On High School Campus)

    The off-site dual credit program is for students wanting to take dual credit courses on their high school campus. This program is available only to high schools that have a dual credit agreement with ASU. Please check with your high school counselor to determine if your high school is a current ASU Dual Credit partner.

    • Admission Criteria

      If you are wishing to enroll in ASU dual credit courses at your high school, please ensure you meet the admission requirements below. If you are unsure of these requirements, please contact your high school counselor for more information.

      • Completed Sophomore Year in high school
      • 3.0 high school GPA or above
      • Permission from high school counselor or administrator
    • TSI Information

      All students who do not meet TSI exemption requirements must take a TSI Assessment test in Math and/or Reading and Writing and meet the minimum score below in order to enroll in a dual credit Math or English course with Angelo State.  TSI Assessment scores or exemptions must be recorded with Angelo State prior to enrollment.

      ADDITIONAL TSI EXEMPTION for Dual Credit Only: ASU is able to use STAAR EOC Algebra I and English II scores for dual credit students only.  4000 or higher is needed for each subject.

      350 351 Essay score of 5 or Essay score of 4 and Multiple Choice 363

      Exemptions

      • ACT

        A composite score of 23 or higher AND at least a 19 on the English and/or math sections is required for the ACT TSI Exemption.  If the student does not satisfy the composite requirement first, then he/she will not be eligible for this exemption.

      • SAT

        SAT administered prior to March 2016:  A combined score of 1070 or higher AND at least a 500 on the Critical Reading and/or Math tests is required for the SAT TSI Exemption.  If the student does not satisfy the combined requirement first, then he/she will not be eligible for this exemption.

        SAT administered on or after March 5, 2016:  A minimum score of 480 on the Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing test shall be exempt for both TSI reading and writing.  A minimum score of 530 on the Mathematics test shall be exempt for TSI math.

      • TAKS

        Minimum score of 2200 on both the English and/or math sections with at least a 3 on the writing component of the 11th grade TAKS (applicable for a period of five years from the date of testing)

        Note: Students must supply the TAKS essay score to the ASU Admissions Office as this score is not included on all high school transcripts.

      • STAAR

        STAAR end of course (EOC) with a minimum score of Level 2 (2000) on the English III Reading and English III Writing shall be exempt from the TSI Assessment for reading and/or writing, and a minimum score of Level 2 (4000) on the Algebra II EOC shall be exempt from the TSI Assessment required for the mathematics section.

      • Transfer

        Transferred from a private or independent institution or an accredited out-of-state institution and has satisfactorily completed college-level coursework as determined by ASU 

      • Military

        Reserve: A student who is currently serving and, for at least the three-year period preceding enrollment, has served as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States.

        Veteran: A student who on or after Aug. 1, 1990, was honorably discharged, retired or released from active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States or the Texas National Guard, or was released from service as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States.

      • Degree

        A student who has graduated with an associate or baccalaureate degree from an institution of higher education.

    • Steps to Apply
      • Dual Credit Application - Click link to begin the application. Complete and submit an online dual credit application for admission: 
      • Submit a signed Presidential Scholars Agreement Form to your high school counselor.
      • Request your high school transcript and all test scores be sent to Angelo State. The preferred method to receive transcripts is via TREX.
  • Regent Scholars (On ASU Campus)

    The on-site dual credit program is for students wanting to take classes on the ASU campus in San Angelo. This program is available to students who wish to commute to the ASU campus to take courses in the ASU classrooms with current students.

    • Admission Criteria

      To be eligible for admission to this program, high school students must meet the following requirements:

      • Current enrollment in high school courses necessary to complete the curriculum requirements for the Recommended High School Program, Distinguished Achievement or Foundations Plan with Endorsements.
      • Present a composite score on the ACT or a combined verbal and math score on the SAT for the high school class ranks shown below:

      *SAT scores include combined critical reading and math.  Redesigned SAT scores include evidence-based reading & writing and math.  Both SAT tests will use the combined maximum score of 1600.  Click here for additional information regarding the redesigned SAT exam.

       

      Private Schools/ Homeschool:

      • Applicants attending a non-ranking high school and home school applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:

                 1. ACT composite score of 23 or greater
                 2. Old SAT: a combined verbal and math score of 1070 or greater
                 3. Redesigned SAT: Earn an Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing score of at least 480 and Math score of at least 530

      • Review all available courses and complete a course selection sheet with your high school counselor. 
      • Provide Angelo State with proof of a bacterial meningitis vaccination. It is required all students under the age of 22 receive this vaccination prior to registration for courses.
