Texas and Borderland Studies
The Texas and Borderlands Studies program at Angelo State University provides an interdisciplinary forum for faculty, students, and interested members of the broader community to interact, learn, and research the artistic, historic, economic, political, sociological, and cultural aspects of this unique region. The program works in collaboration with the West Texas Collection, which, with significant holdings from throughout the Southwest and the ability to collect, store, and preserve these materials, serves as the research center for the program. The Texas and Borderlands Studies program oversees the Texas and Borderlands Studies minor, provides opportunity and assistance for student and faculty research in the field, and supports studies of public opinion on the economic, political and sociological attitudes that define the region.
The goals of the program are:
- to emphasize regional and ethnic expressions of culture, art, law, science, popular culture, history, literature, and the geophysical aspects;
- examine myths, images, perception, and the reality of the region;
- encourage students to view the region as a viable field of study;
- promote interdisciplinary and cross cultural interaction;
- develop research interests and collaborations with the West Texas Collection.
