Participants
First–generation RAMS is a mentoring program that will help first–semester students navigate the world of higher education by connecting them to other first–generation students, first–generation professionals, and to ASU faculty and staff.
The Spring 2008 program will be a mentor training program that will prepare students to become mentors to incoming Freshmen during the Fall 2008 semester.
Mentors
- First–generation students (neither parent graduated from a 2– or 4–year institution of higher education)
- Attended ASU for a minimum of one long semester
- Enrolled full–time at Angelo State University
- Committed to ASU for the full duration of the program
Mentees
- First–generation students (neither parent graduated from a 2– or 4–year institution of higher education)
- First–semester freshman
- Enrolled full–time at Angelo State University
- Committed to ASU for the full duration of the program
Benefit to Students
Students will benefit by receiving personalized attention from a program coordinator who will help monitor both their social and academic progress. Participants will also have access to cultural activities, community events, and campus organizations/services that will serve as a support system throughout their enrollment at Angelo State University. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to be awarded to an outstanding mentee, and to an outstanding mentor.
