Application Instructions - U.S. Citizens and Resident Card Holders
Thank you for your interest in the College of Graduate Studies at Angelo State University (ASU). The ASU College of Graduate Studies seeks applications from candidates with strong academic preparation, leadership potential and a demonstrated commitment to education. Some students seek admission immediately after completing an undergraduate degree, while others attend ASU after time spent in the work force. The diversity of background and experience within the student body provides a rich dimension for classroom interactions.
There are several types of ASU graduate applicants. Please determine which category you fall into and make sure you state this correctly on your application. There are specific requirements for each of the categories listed below. Please be aware of the requirements before you apply. You will be asked if you would like to pay your application fee by credit card after you have submitted your application.
DEGREE APPLICANTS:
Students applying to a degree program leading to one of the Master's Degrees offered at ASU.
NON-DEGREE APPLICANTS:
Post-Master's Programs. A master's degree is required. For the Clinical Nurse Specialist certification program, the master's degree must be in nursing. All education additional certification programs require initial certification in some educational specialty and generally a master's degree in education. The Superintendent certification program requires principal certification. The Nurse Educator certificate program requires a master's degree in any field. The LPC certification is for students who wish to take several courses to be able to sit for the LPC exam.
Post-Baccalaureate Programs. A bachelor's degree is required.
Transient Status requires proof from the dean or registrar of the graduate college you are currently attending that you are in good status in the graduate program there.
Audit Status is for students who wish to sit in on a course without receiving credit for the course. Departmental approval is required.
General Enrichment Status is for students who do not wish to pursue a graduate degree but wish to enroll in courses to further their career development or to explore a new field of interest. Departmental approval is required.
Grant Programs are special programs funded through outside agencies.
Senior-Graduate Programs. Open to senior undergraduate students who meet specific criteria.
Integrated BBA/MBA or BBA/MPAc requires a major in accounting, completion of at least 90 undergraduate semester credit hours (sch), two (6 sch) Intermediate Accounting courses with a combined GPA of 2.5 or better, and an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
Other. A maximum of two graduate level courses may apply as either undergraduate or graduate credit for students who have completed at least 100 undergraduate semester credit hours, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and satisfy the prerequisites for the course(s).
TRANSIENT: Students in good standing in a graduate program at another graduate school who wish to transfer a maximum of 9 hours to that institution. A letter from the Registrar or the Graduate Dean of the other institution stating that the student is in "Good Standing" must be received by the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies at ASU before admission can be given.
