Application Instructions for International Students
Thank you for your interest in the College of Graduate Studies at Angelo State University (ASU). The ASU College of Graduate Studies seeks applications from candidates with strong academic preparation, leadership potential and a demonstrated commitment to education. Some students seek admission immediately after completing an undergraduate degree, while others attend ASU after time spent in the work force. The diversity of background and experience within the student body provides a rich dimension for classroom interactions.
Angelo State University has a number of international students currently enrolled representing many different countries throughout the world. Some of the countries represented are Bangladesh, Bulgaria, India, Pakistan, Russia, People's Republic of China, Germany, France, Mexico, United Kingdom, Trinidad and Tobago, and Zimbabwe, just to name a few.

Admission Process
The completed application and supporting documents are sent to the department of proposed study for an admission recommendation. The department looks at the following factors:
- Completion of the undergraduate prerequisites for the intended program.
- The applicant's previous academic record, which may include overall GPA, last 60 hour GPA, GPA in the major or in the prerequisite courses, and/or GPA in any relevant graduate work. GPAs are computed on all course work taken including all grades on repeated courses.
- The applicant's GRE/GMAT/TOEFL test score.
- The applicant's TOEFL or IELTS score. For test information, please go to TOEFL.org for TOEFL information or IELTS.org for IELTS information. TOEFL is managed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, New Jersey. IELTS is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.
- The essay of no more than 500 words (typed in 12- point type with one
inch margins) which describes your educational plans, career objectives,
commitment to your particular field of study, any research experience,
your view of research and possible research interests, and personal goals.
The essay may address any of the following factors which are qualities
that will be acknowledged in the admission process:
- socioeconomic history
- family background (including level of educational attainment)
- personal talents, leadership capabilities, community service
- Other criteria, as defined by the Program Requirements. Please be aware of the requirements before you apply.
Applicants who submit a satisfactory essay, have at least a 2.5 overall undergraduate GPA or 3.0 in the last 60 semester hours, and who meet the program's formula (and in some programs, additional criteria) as indicated below will normally be awarded Regular Admission, resources permitting.
Applicants who have not completed all prerequisites may be required to complete them before being considered for admission. In some programs, applicants may be admitted if they lack some prerequisites, but will be required to make up these undergraduate courses (leveling work) within the first year of their graduate enrollment.
International students should not leave their home country before gaining admission to the College of Graduate Studies at Angelo State University. International students must be able to prove that they can pay the full costs of their tuition and residency in the United States before they will be able to obtain a student visa.
Only written notice from the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies constitutes approval of admission.
These admission criteria are consistent with H.B. 1641 relating to graduate
student admission.

To Check the status of your application. We know that
you will be anxious to hear from us concerning your admission. After all
your application materials have been received, your packet is sent to the
department for evaluation. It usually takes two weeks for each department
to send an evaluation back to us. A login ID and PIN number are usually
sent in the first correspondence from this office.You can check the status
of your application on-line at http://rams.angelo.edu
by selecting "Check Admission Status". Accessing this site will
enable you to check if your official transcripts or test score have arrived
in the graduate office or to see if you have been accepted.
