Physical Therapy Application Instructions - International Students
Thank you for your interest in the Physical Therapy program at Angelo State University (ASU). Angelo State University admits students to the Physical Therapy program who show promise of succeeding in a rigorous academic environment. This promise is generally demonstrated through academic performance, as measured by the undergraduate grade point average (GPA) and standardized test scores (e.g., GRE). Applicants who have distinguished themselves in curricular and extracurricular undertakings, have exhibited exceptional leadership abilities, or have demonstrated special skills or talents related to physical therapy may also be worthy of consideration for admission.
Angelo State University has a number of international students currently enrolled representing many different countries throughout the world. Some of the countries represented are Bangladesh, Bulgaria, India, Pakistan, Russia, People's Republic of China, Germany, France, Mexico, United Kingdom, Trinidad and Tobago, and Zimbabwe, just to name a few.

To be considered for regular admission, applicants must:
- Complete a Baccalaureate degree.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (including all repeat courses).
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for Physical Therapy program prerequisite courses; last grade attained will be used for repeat prerequisite courses.
- Complete ALL prerequisite courses by the end of the semester PRIOR to matriculation.
- Complete a total of 50 observation or employment hours in two (2) different areas of clinical practice.
- Score at least 2,400 points from the formula: (300 X GPA) + GRE Verbal + GRE Quantitative + GRE Analytical Writing Conversion (AWC). Please call the Graduate Studies Office for the GRE AWC conversion.
- Complete three Physical Therapy recommendation forms.
- Complete a Physical Therapy Self Report Transcript Evaluation.
- International applicants must also have a minimum TOEFL score of (paper: 600; computer-based: 250; iBT TOEFL: 80).

Stage I:
Submission of Application Materials to the Graduate Office
Step 1. Complete Graduate Studies Application. Graduate Application
Step 2. Compose Essay
An essay of no more than 500 words (typed in 12- point type with one inch
margins) which describes your educational plans, career objectives, commitment
to your particular field of study, any research experience, your view of
research and possible research interests, and personal goals. The essay
may also address any of the following factors which are qualities that will
be acknowledged in the admission process:
- Socioeconomic history
- Family background (including level of educational attainment)
- Personal talents, leadership capabilities, community service
Step 3. Pay application fee
International student's application fee is $50.00 and should be paid by
international postal money orders only. Made payable to "Angelo State
University."
Step 4. Order academic transcripts.
Have one official transcript from each college/university you have attended
(except Angelo State University) sent directly from each college/university
to the ASU College of Graduate Studies. If the transcript is mailed
to you or if you hand-deliver the transcript, it will NOT be considered
official and you will have to order another official transcript from that
school to be mailed directly to us. Although it must be emphasized
that you have to send official transcripts, we encourage you to provide
us with unofficial (personal) copies of you transcripts now if you have
them so we can calculate your GPA. Please be aware that the GPA is calculated
including all grades, even those on repeated courses.
Step 5. Request that an official copy of your General GRE Test
Score be sent directly to ASU from the Educational Testing Service.
GRE Scores cannot be more than five years old.

Step 6. Complete the Self-Report Transcript.
Step 7. Complete the Proof
of Volunteer Hours Form.
Applicants must complete a total of 50 hours in 2 different
areas of clinical practice.
Step 8. Send three Letters of Reference to the College of Graduate Studies using the Recommendation Form.
Step 9. International Applicants must submit TOEFL Scores.

Step 10. Complete the Supplemental Information Form
Step 11. Complete the English Proficiency Form
Step 12. Complete the Official Financial Statement
Step 13. Send an Official Bank Statement as requested in the Official Financial Statement above.
Step 14. Read the additional procedures that are required of International Students
The deadline to file admission materials is February 1st of the year you plan to enroll. Students whose native language is not English and those who do not have an undergraduate degree from a university or college in the United States must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and submit their scores with their application for admission.
An original of all international transcripts must be submitted and an English translation and evaluation of all international transcripts must also be submitted. International student should not leave their home country before gaining admission to the College of Graduate Studies at Angelo State University. International students must be able to prove that they can pay the full costs of their tuition and residency in the United States before they will be able to obtain a student visa.
If the applicant clears the Admission State I process, written notification of advancement to State II from the College of Graduate Studies will be sent to the applicant. At this point, the applicant must submit a $25.00 physical therapy processing fee to the Physical Therapy Department before Stage II can begin.
Stage II:
Admission Interview
Once the $25.00 Physical Therapy processing fee has been received
from the applicant by the Physical Therapy Department, the Physical Therapy
Admissions Committee will review the applicant's file. Qualified applicants
will be called regarding an interview. Up to 20 individuals will be recommended
to the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies for admission into the PT
program. Only written notice from the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies
constitutes approval of admission.
These admission criteria are consistent with H.B. 1641 relating to graduate student admission
Applications for the PT program are accepted beginning December 1 with a February 1 hard deadline. Interviews will occur in February and admission decisions will be delivered in mid-March.
To Check the status of your application. Once you have submitted all of your application materials, we know that you will be anxious to hear from us concerning your admission. You may check the status of your application on-line at http://rams.angelo.edu by selecting "Check Admission Status". Your 6-digit PIN number will be set to the Month, Day, and Year of your birthday (MMDDYY e.g., example: 010571). Accessing this site will enable you to check if your official transcripts or test score have arrived in the graduate office or to see if you have been accepted.
