Carr Graduate Scholarship Information & Application
The College of Graduate Studies is proud to offer the Carr Graduate Scholarship that is unique to our degree-seeking students. Eligibility criteria, formulas and deadlines may be viewed on the Carr Graduate Scholarship page.
Out-of-State Tuition Waivers
Carr Graduate Scholarships awarded to full-time out-of-state and international students will normally qualify such students to pay the tuition and fees required of Texas residents.
Other Scholarships Offered at ASU
In addition to the Carr Graduate Scholarship, the university has available both tuition scholarships and tuition-and-fee scholarships for which graduate students are eligible. They are made available on the basis of academic ability and financial need and are awarded by the University Financial Aid Committee. Only graduate students who plan to carry at least nine semester hours are eligible. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year with the provision that the recipient meet the academic standards established for such scholarships. In order to have the scholarship renewed for a second academic year, the student must reapply.
Texas Public Education Grant Information (TPEG)
The Texas Public Education Grant is a state program funded through tuition payments and is available to graduate students who demonstrate financial need who enroll at least half-time. Funds are limited, so early application is encouraged. Further information may be obtained by calling the financial aid office at (800) 933-6299, or by e-mail at carr@angelo.edu.
Graduate Assistantship/Teaching Assistantship Information and Application
Angelo State University offers two types of appointments for graduate students: (1) contract appointments for an academic year (or semester) for Teaching Assistants who have responsibility for lecture classes, individual instruction, or laboratory sections, and (2) staff appointments without fixed term as Graduate Assistants who have responsibility for a wide range of duties designed to support the undergraduate instructional program. All graduate students who are awarded assistantships must be regular graduate degree students and enrolled in the Graduate School during the term of their appointments. Graduate Assistantships are available in the following areas: Animal Science, Communications, Education, English, Biology, Kinesiology, Psychology, and the Small Business Development Center (International Trade Office). Teaching Assistantships are available in the Biology, Communications, English, Kinesiology, and Psychology departments. Completion of 18 graduate semester credit hours in the field are required for Teaching Assistantships. Graduate Assistantships pay $13.50/hour, generally for a 17.5 hour work week. Teaching assistantships carry a stipend of 11,095/academic year.
Application Procedure
An applicant for a Teaching Assistantship or a Graduate Assistantship must submit the following:
- Application for the Assistantship.
- Three letters of Recommendation (must state that you would make a good/great Teaching/Graduate Assistant)
Applications will not be processed until Regular Admission into a master's degree program at Angelo State University has been given. Applications for Teaching and Graduate Assistantships are available in the Office of the Graduate Dean.
Research Assistantship Information
Research assistantships are available for some University research projects. The duties of each research assistant shall not exceed 19 hours of work per week, will depend specifically upon the research project to which the graduate student is assigned, and will be determined by the faculty member directing the project.
Financial Aid
Long-term loans are available through the Financial Aid Office. These consist of the Federal Perkins Loan and the Federal Stafford Loan. For more information, contact the Financial Aid Office at (325) 942-2246.
