Program Information
I'm Dr. Norman Sunderman, graduate advisor for the Graduate Programs in Accounting and Professional Accountancy. I was asked to answer the three questions most frequently asked by entering graduate students. Since most accounting students are in the integrated program, earning both a bachelor and master degree at the same time, there are no typical questions. Therefore I will mention the three most important things that students should know before starting graduate work in Accounting.First, our program has a reputation of producing graduates with good accounting knowledge and the willingness to work hard and not complain about overtime. Therefore, our students are in demand and most graduates either stay in West Texas or move to the metroplex.
Second, students should know that the reason graduates have a good business background, is that they are required to spend a considerable amount of time on their courses. Therefore, students should balance their course load with any job that they might have and not become over extended.
And third, because the program is small, all accounting classes are offered only once per year, as are most of the courses in business disciplines. When a projected plan for taking classes is set up at the beginning, students should not alter that plan without consulting me. An added benefit of small classes, which usually range from 10-19 students in accounting, is the great esprit de corps among the accounting students. They are truly a class because they are almost all of the same classes for the last two semesters.
We are proud of our graduate program in accounting and hope that you will become part of the Angelo State Family.
