Program Information
Let me be the first to welcome you to our graduate program in animal science at Angelo State University. My name is Cody Scott I'm the graduate advisor for the department. I will be sitting down with you in the very near future to assist you with developing you degree plan. But first I want to take a few minutes of your time to discuss a few items that new graduate students should be familiar with. First our graduate program consist of two basic degree options. For those students interested in research we have the thesis degree option. This curriculum is particularly reserved for students who are successful and acquiring one our graduate research assistantships. If your interested in completing a thesis and did not receive a assistantship from our department that option may still be available to you. Each year we have several graduate students who begin a non-thesis degree program and receive a graduate research assistantship after their first semester. In this case, we have students that complete a thesis project without an assistantship if other additional research funds are available. Students with a thesis option require to complete 30 hours of coursework, six of which are thesis credit. Our non-thesis degree option which is reserved for those students interested in acquiring advanced position in ag industry which requires 36 hours of coursework. Regardless of your degree option our program typically takes 2 years for completion. Assumming you have are able to complete 9 semester credits hours per semester. This is usually not a problem because we will offer 3 graduate courses per semester in both the fall and spring semesters. In addition, research credit for non-thesis students and thesis are always taught during the summer. On occasion a graduate course other than research or thesis is taught during the summer as well. During your time at Angelo State I will be glad to help you select the courses that will compliment your interest. Each semester we will need to find some time during pre-registration to meet and discuss your coursework for the upcoming emester. For those of you that are on the thesis option I encourage you to work closer with your thesis advisor to select the courses that compliment your thesis topic. In the end, we are very proud of our graduate students and our graduate program. Rest assure that all the faculty will look forward to you during your time at Angelo State. Please feel free to contact me or any of our faculty members if you have any questions regarding your graduate program.Contact Information:
