Courses taught include History 2331-2332 (History of Western Civilization); History 3331 (Classical Civilizations, Greece and Rome); History 6333 (Recent European History Since 1918); History 4336 (Age of Nationalism: Europe, 1850-1918); History 4341 (History of Russia); History 4361 (Topics in Military History); History 6364 (Topics in United States National Security Policy); History 6373 (Historiography and Research).

University Service: Professor and Head of Department of History from 1973 until semi-retirement in 2004; Interim Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts 1999-2000 and 2004-05; chair of numerous university committees.

Military service: Instructor and Assistant Professor at United States Military Academy, 1966-69; Deputy Commander, U.S. Army Center of Military History, Washington D.C., during Operation Desert Storm (February-August 1991); United States Army Reserve (1968-92, retired in the rank of Colonel).

Scholarship: History of Europe, 1500-1848 (New York: Barnes and Noble, 1975); Historical Bibliography No. 7, Mobilization (Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas: Combat Studies Institute, 1987) and various articles in scholarly and military books and encyclopedias.

Awards: Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation, Piper Professor, 1986 (Ten Outstanding Texas Professors of the Year).

Other Professional Activities: Between 1990-95, was military history consultant to the U.S. Postal Service for 50th Anniversary of World War II Commemoration Stamp Series. Also, Visiting Professor of Strategy, United States Air Force War College, 1990-91.

Community Service: Active in local civic activities. Served eight years on the Fort Concho Historical Site and Museum Board of Directors and two terms as President, 1980-81 and 1999-2000.
