Areas of Specialization: Latin American History; Modern Mexico; and the United States - Mexico Border.
Scholarship: "Blacks in Northern New Spain." The Journal of Big Bend Studies 16 (2004), and other articles; several translations including, "Exploring the Rios," in God's Country or Devil's Playground: The Best Nature Writing from the Big Bend of Texas, ed. Barney Nelson (Austin: University of Texas Press, 2002); several award winning museum exhibits, and numerous conference presentations in the United States and Mexico.
