ISTD 3381 - International Information Systems - International Information Systems: Russian Federation This course will provide a foundation in the theory and practical application of information systems within an organization. Special emphasis will be placed to contrast and compare the Russian Federation management information system with that of the United States.

ISTD 6381 - Electronic Business - Emerging Technologies and the Russian Federation:This course will survey emerging technologies in the managerial and technical practices within the Russian Federation. The course will explore how doing business globally and via the World Wide Web differs from all previous business paradigms. This course will examine the linkage of organizational strategy and electronic methods of delivering products, services, and exchanges in inter-organizational, national, and global environments. This topic will require the student to place special emphasis on technological advances and e-business practices by contrasting and comparing the Russian Federation with the United States of America.

ISTD 3381 - International Finance and the Russian Federation: This course examines the Russian financial system, banking structure, the Russian Central Bank, currency, and exchange rate mechanism. It provides an overview of the international monetary system from World War II to present with the transition from fixed to floating exchange rates and the history of inconvertibility of rubles. The role of gold in international economics is discussed.

ISTD 6381 - International Economics and the Russian Federation: This course examines the role of Russia in the world economy, the economic strengths and weaknesses of Russia, balance of trade, and capital flows. The course familiarizes students with the application of general principles of fiscal and monetary policy in modern Russia and discusses problems that arise in the course of their implementation and plans to address these problems. Topics include trade policy, tariff and volume protection, movement of financial capital and labor, and social welfare.

Student Eligibility
Participants must be students pursuing a degree at Angelo State University. The Program is open to 15 undergraduate students currently enrolled at ASU who are in good standing and who are in academic programs for which the classes offered are appropriate. Students are expected to have completed 30 or more semester credit hours with a GPA of 2.5 or better. The selection of students participating in the program will be the responsibility of the faculty directors and will be based on a number of criteria, including the student's classification, academic program, previous international education experience, grade point average, and her/his willingness to contribute to the group effort. The faculty will be especially concerned with providing international education opportunities to students whose foreign travel experiences have been limited. In order to be selected students must satisfy the director that they are committed to the educational objectives of the program.
Participants in the program are subject to and are required to abide by all policies and provisions in the 2007-2009 University Catalog, including the Student Life Regulations and Policies. Participants are also responsible for obeying the local and national laws of the country in which they are studying, as well as for conducting themselves in a manner consistent with local customs. Participants in these programs are subject to any reasonable disciplinary action the Administration of the University may consider appropriate, including suspension, dismissal, and expulsion.
Language Proficiency
Although Russian language proficiency is not required, students admitted to the program are encouraged to undertake some Russian language study in preparation for the Russian travel experience.
Application Procedure and Dates
Students must apply for the program in order to be considered. An initial screening by the directors will result in a group being selected for personal interviews. Upon selection, students will make their initial deposit.
Applications
Application forms will be available in the Departments of Accounting, Economics and Finance and Management & Marketing, Rassman Building, rooms 258 and 212. The forms include the following: Application, Health and Medical Information, Release of All Claims, Medical Authorization, and Student Life Regulations. Additionally, forms can be accessed on the Center for International Studies website. All forms must be completed and returned to either faculty director.
Application Deadline
The application deadline is November 10, 2008. Students who apply early will be given first preference toward acceptance.
Student Costs
Students selected for the program will be eligible for the Carr International Studies Scholarships. Local transportation, additional excursions and extra meal expenses will be the responsibility of the student.
Tuition and Fees
The payment of tuition and fees will be made when students register for their courses for the first summer term, and financial aid will be awarded at that time.
Special Travel Fee Information
U.S. Passport
Students are responsible for getting their own passports. Students can get applications and passport photographs at the main Post Office, One North Abe Street or at the Southwest Station 3201 Loop 306, San Angelo, Texas. Applications should be submitted when the initial program deposit is made because it often takes six to eight weeks to receive a passport. A passport costs about $100 and is valid for 10 years. You must have the passport by March 1st, 2009.
Passport Registration
Russia requires you to surrender (for a few hours) and register your passport at each overnight stay. A registration fee is charged at each place you reside. This registration process and associated fee is included in our contract with Kuban University.
Insurance
All program participants must have adequate health and accident insurance in case hospitalization or other medical care is required during the study tour. Participants will be required to provide the directors with their insurance company name, policy number, and telephone number. Health insurance covering international travel is available to students on a short-term basis. Further information is available from the Center for International Studies, Rassman 101.
Refunds
All costs are based on the number of students participating in the program. Refunds of payments to ASU can be made only for funds that can be recovered from airlines and travel agents without increasing the cost to participating students.
Personal Interviews
Personal interviews with the program directors or an authorized person will be scheduled as the applications are received.
Initial Deposit
Students selected to participate in the program will be required to make an initial deposit of $500 upon notification of selection. This deposit is necessary in order to make airline reservations.
Release of Liability
All students are required to sign a standard waiver releasing Angelo State University and all related parties from any and all liabilities arising from the program.
Faculty Directors
The faculty directors of this program are Dr. Steve Reames - Management Information Systems and Dr. Thomas Bankston-Accounting, Finance, and Economics. Dr. Bankston has traveled and participated in the Germany Studies program for many years. Dr. Reames has lived, visited, and traveled Russia extensively on several occasions. This will be his fifth return trip to Kuban State University.
