Scotland/United Kingdom 2008
The 2008 Study Abroad program to Edinburgh, Scotland, to be conducted from May 30– June 28, 2008, will provide 20 undergraduate and 10 graduate students the unique opportunity to study International Management and British Politics in a hands-on setting. Students will travel to Edinburgh and study at Heriot Watt University located just outside the city.
Heriot-Watt University is a community of over 5,000 students and staff and is one of the United Kingdom's rising research universities. Heriot-Watt was established in 1821, and has since been recognized for its pioneering work in engineering, science and management. The university was originally located in downtown Edinburgh, but due to the increasing student demand, was moved to the Riccarton Campus, about 15 miles from the city center.
Overall, students will experience first hand the rich culture of the United Kingdom, and study international affairs and British Politics. A carefully planned series of campus lectures at Angelo State University will introduce students to the major themes of the program and provide and intensive overview for living and studying abroad.
During these initial class meetings students will begin reading assignments prior to departure. The meetings before departure allow for intensive study sessions while abroad but also allow more time for excursions and educational trips while overseas.
The 2008 program will include visits to major businesses and government institutions. It also includes an intensive travel part that will take participating students to places like London, Paris, and Genoa, Italy.
