Athletic Training
Athletic training is a health care profession specializing in the clinical diagnosis, immediate management, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries.
Accredited Program
The ASU Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. This designation indicates that our program follows curriculum guidelines to ensure that students are getting the best possible education. Upon completion of the ATEP, students are awarded a Bachelor of Science in athletic training.
Friendly Atmosphere
Students apply for admission to the athletic training program following the completion of two prerequisite courses. By having a competitive entry program, professors are able to keep class sizes small and get to know their students on a first-name basis. During their first year, students are required to participate in two-hour study groups once a week, which helps them get to know their peers.
Real-World Preparation
The athletic training degree plan is science-focused and the majority of classes are lab-based. Students benefit from San Angelo’s strong medical community, where they learn from local physicians and get exposure to a variety of clinical settings.
Career Opportunities
Our athletic training program prepares students to take the Board of Certification (BOC) Exam and the Texas Department of State Health Services Athletic Training Licensing Exam. While athletic trainers are best known for providing health care services to high schools, colleges and professional athletes, they can also be found in orthopedic clinics, industrial settings, the military, hospitals and physician practices. Each of these diverse settings maximizes the knowledge and skills provided by athletic trainers.
