Alpha Mu Gamma
Alpha Mu Gamma is the national collegiate foreign language honor society of the United States, founded in 1931. More than two hundred charters have been granted to chapters in the United States and Puerto Rico. Chapters are founded both in state and private universities and in public and private colleges.Alpha Mu Gamma has as its primary purpose the honoring of students for outstanding achievement during their first year of foreign-language study in college. However, students may be admitted at any stage in their college careers. Upon initiation a member receives a parchment certificate of membership, and may wear the scroll-shaped gold key or pin.
Activities of the Society are: the publication of the annual SCROLL, containing student articles, and of the quarterly NEWSLETTER; biennial national conventions; regional conferences at which students are able to meet others who share their interest in foreign languages; chapter meetings and special chapter activities of every sort; the sponsorship of National Foreign Language Week, endorsed by each President of the United States since 1957, with the distribution of thousands of posters each year in celebration of the Week; the annual awarding of three $500 scholarships; the selection of our members for summer scholarships; the publication of various pamphlets which promote the study of foreign languages and different aspects of the celebration of National Foreign Language Week.
If you have received a copy of this folder you are possibly eligible for membership in the Society.
