Foreign Language Festival
The ASU Foreign Language Festival will become a Competition and because we are most interested that the new Competition be very do-able for teachers and their best students, we're designing it from the ground up. Because we'll need time to plan and implement, the first Competition is set for next year.
The new ASU Competition would showcase each student in 4 required events:
a prepared piece (either poetry or prose)
a written test
a listening comprehension test
an extemporaneous speaking activity (from either a visual or situational cue)--with a suitable alternative category for Latin students.
We are considering an optional category for creative performance/product (such as a play, a painting, an original poem, a song).
Judges would use criteria from ACTFL for judging. Students would get ribbons, schools would get trophies, teachers would get a fabulous sit-down lunch, and, conceivably, the winning student of each category would receive a scholarship to ASU.
We would very much appreciate your feedback, your suggestions and concerns about the proposed plans. Email us at modernlanguages@angelo.edu. We would like you to consider carefully, which semester would give optimal student participation/performance--fall or spring semester? On a Friday or a Saturday?
Watch this website for a questionnaire that will help us design this new event. We hope you and your school share our enthusiasm, and we thank you for your patience during the planning process.
