Mentor Application
The First Generation RAMS Program is designed to provide incoming first generation freshman with the knowledge and skills to succeed in higher education. Students will be connected with peer mentors, faculty and staff, organizations, events and programs that will enrich their college experience.
Your job as a mentor will be lead incoming freshman in a group setting and one on one to help them feel comfortable and at home on the campus of ASU. Our focus is on retention and academic success, so your efforts will be based around ideas and activities that foster these two things.
Examples of activities that you will be involved in will include:
- Providing knowledge of resources available to students on campus (study groups, tutoring sessions, etc.)
- Helping students connect with faculty in their field of study
- Leading discussions about campus life
- Leading team building and leadership activities
- Fostering a sense of belonging and feeling of community among participants
- Interacting with your group outside of scheduled program activities
Please read the following requirements carefully before completing and submitting your application:
- Be a first generation student (neither parent has completed a two or four year degree).
- Must have completed at least 2 long semesters.
- Must have earned a minimum 2.0 GPA.
- Must be able to commit to the full academic year.
- Must be able to commit 3-4 hours per week to the program.
- Must be able to attend a mandatory mentor training before the fall semester begins.
