LVN - RN Hospital Partnership Program: Admission, Progression, and Graduation
LVN-RN Hospital Partnership Program students must meet the below requirments for admission, progression, and graduation. The Hospital partners may have additional admission requirements.
Admission, Progression, and Graduation
Admission:
- All applicants must be fully admitted to Angelo State University before applying to the
LVN-RN Hospital Partner Program - Official Transcripts submitted from each college attended must be submitted to the
Department of Nursing - Completed prerequisite courses with a minimum GPA of 2.25:
o Biology 2423 – Anatomy
o Biology 2424 – Physiology
o English 1301
o Math 1302 – College Algebra OR 1311 – Business Math
o Psychology 1303 – Psychology of Adjustment OR 2301 – General Psychology
o Psychology 2304 – Developmental Psychology
o RNSG 1311 (Pathophysiology)
o Minimum grade of “C” in all science courses - ACT (18 minimum composite score) or SAT (930 composite on SAT OR 1270 on SAT I).
- The LVN applicant must have a valid, unencumbered, Texas LVN license.
Progression:
- Phase I: The LVN transition student must complete RNSG 1227 Transition from Vocational to Professional Nursing and RNSG 1160 Clinical (Phase I) with a minimum grade of C to matriculate into Phase II.
- Phase II: The LVN transition student must complete RNSG 2427 Transition from Vocational to Professional Nursing II and RNSG 2527 Clinical with a minimum grade of C.
- The LVN transition
student must also complete The College Network Study Modules:
o Nursing Care of the Child and Family
o Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family
o Mental Health Nursing (in development) - The LVN transition student must be in compliance with all progression standards of the AASN program.
- The LVN transition student must be in compliance with all rules, policies, and procedures for the AASN program as outlined in the current University Catalog and the current Undergraduate Nursing Student Handbook. Unless specific exceptions are designated for the LVN-RN Hospital Partnership Program.
Graduation:
The following courses must be completed in order to graduate with the AASN degree at
Angelo State University:
- RNSG 1227 & RNSG 1160* - Transition from Vocational to Professional Nursing I
- RNSG 2427 & RNSG 2527** - Transition from Vocational to Professional Nursing II
- Biology 2411 – Microbiology
- NUR 2338 – Computer Literacy
- Physical Activity – 1 hour PA or PE course
- Biology 2423 – Anatomy
- Biology 2424 – Physiology
- English 1301 – Freshmen English
- Math 1302 – College Algebra OR 1311 – Business Math
- Psychology 1303 – Psychology of Adjustment OR 2301 – General Psychology
- Psychology 2304 – Developmental Psychology
- RNSG 1311 (Pathophysiology)
- Minimum grade of “C” in all science courses
*Upon completion of RNSG 1227 and RNSG 1160 with a grade of C or better, the LVN
student is given credit for RNSG 1105 Nursing Skills I, RNSG 1108 Dosage Calculations
in Nursing, RNSG 1144 Nursing Skills II, RNSG 1309 Introduction to Nursing, RNSG
1361 Clinical, RNSG 1341 Common Concepts of Adult Health, RNSG 1363 Clinical, and
RNSG 1301 Pharmacology.
**Upon completion of RNSG 2427 and RNSG 2527 with a grade of C or better as well as the required College Network Study Modules, the LVN student is given credit for RNSG 1146 Legal and Ethical Issues For Nurses/ RNSG 1343 Complex Concepts of Adult Health, RNSG 2361 Clinical/ RNSG 2201 Pediatric Nursing/ RNSG 2261 Clinical/ RNSG 2208 OB and Women's Health/ RNSG 2260 Clinical/ RNSG 2213 Mental Health Nursing/ RNSG 1163 Clinical/ RNSG 2221 Management of Client Care.
This plan meets all of the requirements for the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing and a portion of the core curriculum requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
