Curriculum Vitae

Carolyn Mason received her BSPT from Northwestern University. After practicing in an acute care hospital in suburban Chicago for 3 years, she pursued a Master 's of Medical Science at Emory University with an emphasis on applied neuroscience. She next moved to Houston, Texas to work at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) on the Brain Injury unit. She also worked with the high risk quadriplegics and conducted aquatic therapy. Her next position was at the School of Physical Therapy at Texas Woman's University where she taught in the areas of therapeutic exercise.

Dr. Mason returned to Chicago to earn a PhD in Neuroscience at Northwestern University. Her research compared the role of the two divisions of the cerebellar interposed nucleus in the control of reach-to-grasp activities in the nonhuman primate. Her next stop was the University of Minnesota for postdoctorate experience where she focused on what the cerebellar Purkinje cells and primary motor cortical encoded during reach-to-grasp movements. She also studied grasp kinematics in humans and nonhuman primates.

At ASU, Dr. Mason continues to investigate the control of reach-to-grasp exploring how the control changes across the lifespan. A new research interest is the use of the Wii as an intervention with persons with a neurological disorder. Dr. Mason teaches neuroscience, clinical pathology and neuromuscular pathology.
