Ms. Hughes teaches in the areas of orthopaedics, manual therapy, physical agents and health care issues. Prior to coming to San Angelo, Ms. Hughes's teaching experiences included adjunct instructor positions at McLennan Community College Physical Therapy Assistant Program in Waco, TX and at Texas Woman's University in Dallas, TX.

Ms. Hughes worked 15 years at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX or Scott & White Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation clinic in Hewitt, TX. She practiced in a variety of settings including acute care, wound care, rehabilitation, out patient, skilled nursing, and home health. Most of her experience is in out patient orthopaedics with a special interest in manual therapy (soft tissue and joint mobilization). In addition to patient care, Ms. Hughes also played a supervisory role, developed protocols, participated in staff education and development, back schools, and sport clinics. She was a regular clinical instructor for both PTA and PT students in the clinic.

Ms. Hughes is an active member of the Texas Physical Therapy Association (TPTA) and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). She has held the position of Heart of Texas District Chair, Co-chair, Vice-chair, Governmental affairs liaison, Membership liaison, and District Delegate and Delegate-at-Large to the APTA House of Delegates. She currently holds the office of Chief Delegate.

Ms. Hughes is originally from Huntsville, Texas and she attended Sam Houston State University for her prerequisite class work. She completed her BS in PT from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1989 and her MS in PT from Texas Woman's University in 2000. She also achieved Certification in Manual Therapy through the University of St. Augustine, Florida in 1997 and was granted certification as a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopaedics by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 1999 (re-certified in 2008). She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Health Promotion and Wellness from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
