Dr. Bybee joined the ASU faculty in January 2005. His teaching responsibilities include biomechanics and musculoskeletal problems.
He received a BS and certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California in 1968. In 1980 he earned an advanced MS in Physical Therapy and a certificate of Clinical Specialty in Musculoskeletal Disorders also from USC. He was awarded a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2002 from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He is board certified as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist and has earned a Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy of the spine from the McKenzie Institute International.
Dr Bybee served as a physical therapist in the United States Air Force for 23 years. He directed a five-clinic industrial medicine practice for 3 years. He taught McKenzie Institute conservative spine care courses nationally and internationally for 10 years. He had over 10 years of full-time teaching experience at the University of Texas Medical Branch and the University of Texas at El Paso before joining ASU's faculty. In 2005 he was recognized as the outstanding Physical Therapy Educator in Texas.
Dr Bybee's specialty is treating disorders of the spine. In his capacity as ASU faculty and McKenzie Institute International (MII) faculty he is able to offer ASU physical therapy students credit toward completion of MII certification as they complete his portion of the ASU curriculum. He continues to publish and present his research in spine and other musculoskeletal topics nationally and internationally.
