Dr. Hasson has a BS degree in Microbiology, a Masters in Physical Education (both from California State University Fresno), and a Doctorate in Exercise Science (University of Northern Colorado). In addition, following his doctoral degree he completed a BS in Physical Therapy (University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston).

Dr. Hasson has been in teaching and research for 22 years. He was an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University , Department of Health and Physical Education from 1985-86. He then moved to the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston , Department of Physical Therapy and was an Assistant Professor from 1986-1990. Following his tenure at UTMB he moved to Texas Woman's University, School of Physical Therapy - Houston, where he was promoted to full Professor and was the Director of Advanced Studies (1990-97). Dr. Hasson was Head and Professor of the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Connecticut , from 1997-2006 where he held a joint appointment with the Department of Kinesiology. He was on Faculty with the Department of Physical Therapy, NEAG School of Education for 2006-07. He is now Head of the Department of Physical Therapy, Angelo State University .

Dr. Hasson has been active in research and publishing during his 22-year academic career. He has been co-principal investigator for 3 national training grants for the doctoral and post-doctoral level. In addition, he has had research funding from the Department of Education and NASA. Dr. Hasson has published 43 peer-reviewed research articles and a textbook entitled "Clinical Exercise Physiology". He has presented in excess of 150 national papers at Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine meetings.

Dr. Hasson has reviewed grants for the Department of Education; National Institute for Disability Rehabilitation Research (Standing Panel; Health and Function) and for the American College of Rheumatology (Standing Panel - Health Related Professions). He was a panelist for the Philadelphia Panel on Rehabilitation Interventions, sponsored by Cigna. Dr. Hasson is also a manuscript reviewer for many physiology, rehabilitation and exercise science journals including: Journal of Applied Physiology; Arthritis Care and Research; Rheumatism; Physical Therapy; and Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. In addition, he has been an Associate Editor for JOSPT and is the Editor for the international journal Physiotherapy Theory and Practice.

Dr. Hasson has been a NASA Summer Faculty Fellow at Johnson Space Center during 1988. He has also been honored as a Fellow for the American College of Sports Medicine and most recently the American Physical Therapy Association. Dr. Hasson has been on the Executive Board for the Rehabilitation Section of the American College of Rheumatology (1997-2001). Dr. Hasson has been recognized as an outstanding teacher and researcher on multiple occasions. He was honored as the Mary Mason Lyon - Outstanding Faculty Member of the year at Texas Woman's University 1994, and as the Livieri Endowed Professor of Physical Therapy at the University of Connecticut .
