Cadet Career Path

The progression from being a new cadet who cannot put on a uniform correctly to becoming a second lieutenant in the world’s best aerospace force is fast-paced, at times overwhelming, and extremely gratifying. To better understand your role in the wing and what is expected of you, follow this cadet career path.

First Year: AS100

• Take at least 15 hours of courses each semester.
• Begin a steady fitness routine.
• Volunteer to help with Cadet Corps events, such as building ASU’s Homecoming bonfire and working at air shows.
• Learn how to wear the uniform and the basics about Air Force life.
• Study for the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT).
•  Apply for the national In-College Scholarship Program and ASU-specific scholarships.

Summer

• Volunteer to attend summer Professional Development Training (PDT) opportunities.
• Travel across the country and visit active Air Force bases.
• Shadow officers and learn more about future careers – you may get paid to do it!

Second Year: AS200

• Take at least 15 credit hours each semester.
• Begin preparing for field training.
• Continue to improve your physical fitness.
•  Apply for the national In-College Scholarship Program and ASU-specific scholarships.

Summer: Field Training

• Demonstrate all you have learned during the first two years when you attend this rigorous four-week training program.
• Experience weapons training and survival training, and use your skills as a leader and team member.

Third Year: AS300

• Take at least 15 credit hours each semester.
• Get assigned job positions to lead and train other cadets.
• Maintain high standards for others to follow.
• Submit requests for Air Force job selection and base location.

Summer: PDT

• Receive another chance to volunteer and attend summer Professional Development Training (PDT) opportunities.
• Travel across the world and visit active Air Force bases.
• Shadow officers and learn more about future careers – you may get paid to do it!

Fourth Year: AS400

• Take at least 15 credit hours each semester.
• Plan and manage the entire 847th Cadet Wing.
• Receive Air Force job selection and first base location.
• Learn more about and prepare for active duty.

Graduate and Get Commissioned

• Receive your diploma and walk across the graduation stage as a second lieutenant.
• Begin earning a good starting salary and receiving good benefits, such as health insurance.
• Enjoy a wonderful career!
