Field Training

Between cadets’ AS200 (sophomore) and AS300 (junior) years, they go to Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama to apply everything they have learned in ROTC.

Depending on when cadets join the program, field training lasts either four or six weeks. Cadets are placed in high-stress environments and expected to use the skills they have learned to accomplish daily tasks.

All travel, lodging and food expenses are paid, plus cadets receive a salary for their time at field training (FT). Cadets are evaluated by their supervising field training officer and ranked within their flight. The cadet’s ranking will be used, in addition to several other factors, to assign them a future Air Force AFSC (job), pilot categorization or navigator categorization.
