Leader Job Description
Hourly Wage: $9.00 per hour
Required Hours: 15hrs/wk -- extremely flexible
Purpose of job:
SI Leaders model effective classroom behavior and lead group study (SI) sessions, allowing students to participate in group discussions regarding course content. SI Leaders also offer advice and suggestions regarding time management and study skills strategies. The goal of SI is to help students to become independent learners.
SI Leaders support the following ASU courses:
- Biology 1410: Human Biology
- Biology 1411: Man & the Environment
- Biology 2423: Human Anatomy
- Biology 2424: Human Physiology
- Chemistry 1411: General Chemistry
- Chemistry 1412: General Chemistry
- Government 2301: Federal & State Govt
- Government 2302: Federal & State Govt
- History 1301: History to 1865
- History 1302: History from 1865 to Present
- Math 1302: College Algebra
Responsibilities:
- Conduct 1 hour group study (SI sessions) 3-5 times a week
- Combine study skills strategies with course content
- Maintain a weekly SI session schedule
- Keep accurate records and use required forms
- Complete and submit SI Session Plans
- Attend all lectures
- Develop and maintain relationships with the SI instructor, students, and SI staff
Qualifications:
- 3.0 GPA minimum
- Sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student
- Grade B or better in selected course
- Attend ASU for at least one year
- Support from faculty and department
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Evidence of excellence in responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Appropriate and professional behavior at all times
- Attend 2-day SI training prior to the start of the term
