Student studies hard so he can qualify for Angelo State's Student Scholars and Research Program.

Student Scholars and Research Program

The Center for International Students administers the Student Scholars and Research Program to promote interest, knowledge and participation in international study and research. To qualify, students must participate in approved scholarly programs.

Approved programs must meet one or both of these goals:

  • Promote and encourage student participation in international research opportunities
  • Support participation in international conferences, meetings and internships

Scholars Program Selection

  • One student from each college will be selected for the program each academic year.
  • Deadline for materials is three months preceding the program. Applications may be submitted earlier at the discretion of your department chair.
  • Projected funding requirement per student: $2,000 = total of $8,000

Undergraduate Student Eligibility

  • Full-time student, with a minimum of 60 completed semester credit hours
  • Two semesters of resident course work completed before the date of participation in the selected program
  • 3.0 GPA

Graduate Student Eligibility

  • Full-time student
  • 3.0 undergraduate GPA

Student Requirements

You must submit the following materials to the appropriate academic faculty supervisor, department chair and dean, who will then forward their recommendations to the CIS director.

  • Letter of intent
  • Essay detailing all scholar program details and their objectives for participation in the program
  • Full details regarding funds requested

Participating students will submit a report/evaluation to the Center for International Studies by the first Friday of the fall semester and may be asked to meet with the International Education Committee to discuss their program at the group’s fall meeting.

Student Research Assistant Scholarship Program

  • One to two students from each college will be selected for this program each academic year.
  • Deadline for materials is three months preceding the program. Applications may be submitted earlier at the discretion of the department head.
  • Projected scholarship per student: $1,000 = total of $8,000.

Undergraduate Student Eligibility

  • Full-time student with a minimum of 60 completed semester credit hours
  • Acceptance as a research assistant working on an assignment or project that has international implications.

Graduate Student Eligibility

  • Full-time student
  • 3.0 undergraduate GPA
  • Acceptance as a research assistant working on an assignment or project that has international implications
