How to Use the Testing Center
HOW TO USE THE TESTING CENTER COMPUTERIZED FORMAT FOR ON-LINE TESTING
**Remember no cameras, phones, electronics are allowed at computer testing unit.
**Do NOT be afraid to ask for HELP if needed!
**Make sure you understand if your instructor has
- set the program up to "go back"or to "review" or to "change responses" before attempting to do so
- allowed for a single attempt when taking the exam or multiple attempts are allowed
- allowed for immediate exam grade based upon the type of questions being asked; fill-in-the-blank and essay will not be automatically graded
**Before you begin, you must have your ASU ID name and password to access the exam through Blackboard programming.
**The monitoring faculty will NOT have access to your ID nor your exam!
**For Nursing' exams, the faculty monitor will be able to answer some questions but generally, the course faculty will need to give the final answer.
**A phone number to the course faculty is generally available to the monitor for major issues.
STEPS TO USING THE TESTING FORMAT
Blackboard introduction screen should be visible (if not contact monitor)
- sign into Blackboard using your ASU ID and ASU password
- click on the course that you are testing
- click areas on the left side (button side) of screen that is for "testing" (some instructors have listed the exam under "assignments")
- when the testing name pops up click on it
- then a secure password is displayed click on "ok" button on right upper side of screen
- then click again on "submit" in upper right corner of screen
- the test should pop up at that point-if not contact monitor or faculty present
- when the question pops up, read it and answer by clicking the mouse over the correct dot space [NOTE: some items will require more than one response to each question; SELECT ALL THAT APPLY-means there is more than one answer]
- IF it is a Fill-In-The-Blank, be careful with spelling and decimal points if numbers are needed. (Follow directions for rounding issues when answering math questions.)
- each testing item (question) must be accepted by advancing through clicking on the ">" symbol to progress to the next question BUT a secure box will pop up to ask if you are ready to move on and accept this response-click "yes"; [NOTE: if you click the double arrows ">>" this will move you to the end of the exam; usually you would not use this unless you could review the exam]
- repeat #8 until all questions are answered
- when all answers are completed you will click "submit" at the bottom of the exam to send your responses to the instructor [NOTE: some will allow a review and others may not allow a review of the exam, based upon the instructor's programming of the exam]
- then next box will be to close the program- click the large X in a red box at the top of the screen
- When the question box comes up, answer NO to closing the secure browser.
- The number of items correct out of the number of questions will be listed on the next screen, if the instructor has programmed the set up in that format and no essay was included on the exam. Otherwise the grade might be obtained through the "Course - Gradebook" section for that course in Blackboard once grading is completed.
**If you accidentally close down the secure program after taking the exam, the faculty monitor can correct this for the next testing individual.
**IF you kick the plug out or the monitor suddenly shuts off, do not PANIC, the exam is not lost and by simply re-plugging the lines, the test will pop back up.
For error messages, please contact the room monitor.
