Angelo Rock Climbing Competition (ARCC)

Outdoor Adventures is proud to host Angelo State University’s annual mixed rock climbing competition! Each Spring, the entire Climbing Gym is stripped of routes, washed, and set with completely fresh routes. The climbing competition offers the perfect opportunity for participants to measure their skill level, but in a friendly and exciting format. Whether you are a Chris Sharma (climbing rock star), or you have just been climbing once, the climbing competition is for you.

Be sure to take a look at last year’s results and photos to get you pumped up for the next competition. While you are checking out the sweet photos, like the UREC Facebook Page too. Remember, training for next year’s competition begins now.

Event Schedule:

  • Registration/Check-In: 10:00am
  • Welcome Speech: 10:45am
  • Open Climb: 11:00am-4:00pm
  • Finals: 5:00pm
  • Awards/Door Prizes: 6:00pm

  • Format

The competition is open to everyone. The format is a mixed format of bouldering problems and top rope routes. Each route/problem will have a point value labeled near the start. Competitors will receive points by “on sighting”, or climbing without falling. The harder the climb, the more points a competitor will receive.

Each competitor must turn in a scorecard with a minimum of five climbs. Two climbs must be top rope, two must be bouldering problems, and the last is the climber’s decision.

  • Climbing Gym Preparation Schedule

In preparation for the Climbing Competition, the Climbing Gym will begin to have limited availability Friday, March 28th through Saturday, April 5th. Over the course of the week, the Outdoor Adventures team will be stripping the entire Climbing Gym and setting all new routes. Still training? No worries, OA has developed a highly systematic approach to minimizing the impact of our preparations.
