UREC Policies


Entry Policies

  1. Participation Agreement
    1. All programs and activities offered in the CHP and other recreation facilities are on a voluntary participation basis and carry various degrees of risk or injury. Participants assume sole responsibility for any and all such risk or injury that may result due to voluntary participation. It is each individual's responsibility to be knowledgeable of his/her own physical condition when participating in any activity.
  2. All users must present an activated current Angelo State ID or membership card or register their hand in the biometric scanning system to gain entrance into the CHP.
  3. Students
    1. Total Facility/Programming Access
    2. Guest Policy
      1. One free per day
      2. Up to two paid per day for $5.00 each
      3. Total of three guests per day (One free, Two paid)
      4. Sponsor must be present with guests in the activity area at all times
  4. Up and Coming Scholars and Mother and Daughter Academy
    1. Total Facility Access
    2. UREC programming not open to these members includes intramural sports, fitness classes and outdoor adventures (kayak check-out, trips, and workshops).
    3. Guest Policy
      1. One free per day
      2. Up to two paid per day for $5.00 each
      3. Total of three guests per day (One free, Two paid)
      4. Sponsor must be present with guests in the activity area at all time
  5. Faculty/Staff, Spouse, Significant Others, Children Living at Same Residence under the age of 19
    1. $120 UREC Pass per year
      1. Facility Access only
        1. Gym, Locker rooms, Pool, Racquetball courts, Indoor track, and Weight room
    2. Option of $75 per Program or $180 for Total Programming for Faculty/Staff Member Only
      1. Programs include activities with intense supervision or that are instructor led
        1. Intramural Sports
        2. Fitness (Ram X) classes
        3. Outdoor Adventures, including climbing gym and kayak check-out
    3. Faculty/Staff Host must Purchase UREC Pass
    4. Option for Spouse, significant others, and children living at the same residence under the age of 19:
      1. Purchase the UREC Pass for total facility access, if age permits, or
      2. Purchase a guest pass for $5 each day
        1. UREC Pass Member (Faculty/staff sponsor) must be present
        2. Must submit Photo ID at Welcome Desk
    5. Guest Policy
      1. UREC Pass Member
        1. One paid guest per member for $5.00 per day
    6. Guest Pass Holders
      1. Guests Pass Holders are not eligible to sponsor guests
  6. Other Foundation Groups (Alumni, Athletic Foundation, Friends of Art and Music Education, Friends of the Porter Henderson Library and West Texas Collection, President Circle)
    1. $120 UREC Pass per member
    2. Memberships are non-transferable
    3. Membership is a privilege which may be modified or revoked for cause
    4. Annual UREC Passes expire on August 31 each year
    5. Facility Access Only
      1. Gym, Locker rooms, Pool, Racquetball courts, Indoor track, and Weight room
    6. No programming options
    7. No guest privileges
    8. Biometric hand scan required by all other member groups
  7. Age of UREC Pass Member or Guests
    1. 16 or older for unaccompanied facility access
    2. 15 and under must be directly supervised by a member of at-least 18 years of age
    3. 13 years old or older to be in the climbing gym
    4. 12 years old or older to use weight room or track
    5. Parent/Guardian of at-least 18 years of age must supervise children 6 years of age and younger in pool and locker rooms
  8. Guest Process
    1. Purchase Guest Pass from UREC Office M-F from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
      1. No need for guest to be present at time of purchase
    2. Sponsor Bring Guest Pass to Welcome Desk
      1. The sponsor must escort his/her guest(s) into facility and be present with guest through the duration of their stay
      2. Guest should present a state issued ID
    3. Guest Will Receive a Wristband Indicating No Programs
    4. Upon Exit
      1. Report to Welcome Desk
      2. Band is cut off by UREC Staff
        1. If band is removed by guest, sponsor charged $25.00 fine
    5. The sponsor is responsible for the conduct and actions of his/her guest(s) while utilizing recreation facilities. This includes lost, stolen, or damaged equipment, as well as, any facility damage.
  9. Visitor Process
    1. Individuals visiting facility
      1. Meetings
      2. Visiting faculty/staff
      3. Watch programs
    2. Check-in at welcome desk
    3. Wristband not required

Equipment Check-out Process

  1. Permitted by students, UREC Pass Members, or other group members only
  2. Equipment is day use only
  3. Guests not permitted to check-out equipment
  4. Specialized equipment (e.g. Outdoor Adventures Climbing Gym) can only be checked-out if approved through Assistant Director for Outdoor Adventures


Day Use Lockers

  1. Lockers may only be used on a daily basis.
  2. Please store all items in a locker. Unattended items will be collected and considered lost if they are not stored in a locker.
  3. If items are left in the day use lockers at the conclusion of operational hours, items will be removed and placed at the Welcome Desk.


Entry/Exit

  1. The Student Recreation Center is a controlled access facility. Please use the glass doors at the Northwest corner of the building.
  2. Other exits are for emergency use only and are monitored with alarms.

Weight Room Policies

  1. To avoid damaging the upholstery on machines, participants may not wear jeans/denim or cargo pants with rivets or zippers.
  2. Please wipe down machines and re-rack weights when you are finished.
  3. No dropping weight plates, dumbbells, or barbells at any time. If you cannot control the weight, enlist the help of a spotter.
  4. Please do not rest weights on benches.
  5. Spotters are strongly recommended when lifting all free weights.
  6. Please limit cardiovascular workouts to 30 minutes when others are waiting.
  7. You must have a towel to use in the weight room. The towel must be with you at all times and visible.
  8. No glass containers allowed in the weight room area.

Ram X Class Policies (Multipurpose Room 202)

  1. At least one participant must be present within the first 5 minutes of class starting in order to continue the workout.
  2. Latecomers may join the class only if they arrive within the first 10 minutes of the classes starting time.
  3. Some classes will have only a limited number of spots available for participation. Therefore, these spots will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Indoor Track

  1. One mile = approximately 11 laps.
  2. The jogging track is for runners, walkers, and wheelchairs.
  3. All walkers should position themselves to the outside track; runners to the inside.
  4. Signs indicate the daily directional flow of traffic.
  5. No spitting on the track or into the water fountains.

Climbing Gym Policies

  1. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver and be present with children under the age of 18.
  2. Saturday Climbing Pass
    1. Fees
      1. Saturday Climb Day Pass for $15 per patron per Saturday – for any Saturday when classes are in session and expires at the end of the semester which it was purchased.
      2. Summer Saturday Climb Pass for $120 per patron – for every Saturday during the Summer sessions (i.e. Summer I and II) when classes are in session and expires at the end of the Summer II session.
      3. Fall or Spring Saturday Climb Pass for $150 per patron per long semester – for every Saturday during the long semester when classes are in session and expires at the end of the long semester purchased.
    2. All climbing passes include climbing gear available for check-out and staff to belay. 
    3. Climbers must be at least four years of age and able to fit into a climbing harness in order to participate.
    4. Participants under the age of 16 will be required to wear a climbing helmet and must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years of age.

Pool Policies

  1. No swimming without a lifeguard on duty.
  2. All swimsuits must be opaque and appropriate for a family setting. No cut-off shorts allowed.
  3. Please walk on deck and in the showers. The floor may be slippery when wet.
  4. Shower in the locker rooms before entering the pool.
  5. Play safely. Dunking, shoving, and other horseplay may cause accidents and are not permitted.
  6. Jumping or diving in the shallow end or flips, backdives, or backwards jumps are dangerous and prohibited.
  7. Lap swimmers must follow proper lane etiquette.
  8. Only approved Coast Guard Certified flotation devices are allowed in the pool.
  9. Anyone 6 years of age or under must be accompanied in the water by an adult or be determined a competent swimmer by a UREC lifeguard.
  10. Any child who is not toilet trained is required to wear a swim diaper or plastic pants with elastic around the legs.
  11. Anyone entering the deep end may be asked to swim 2 widths of the pool to prove swimming ability.
  12. Lane lines are dividers and should only be used as floatation devices in an emergency.
  13. Patrons having an obvious communicable disease, skin eruption, cut, sore or lesion, eye, ear, nose, or throat infection are prohibited from using any public swimming pool.
  14. Spitting or blowing nose in the pool is prohibited.
  15. No food, gum, glass, or metal container allowed in the pool area. Water is permitted in plastic containers.
  16. Scuba gear and kayaks are prohibited during open swim.

Racquetball Policies

  1. Eye guards are recommended for the safety of all players.
  2. Court reservations are for a one hour period, beginning on the hour, and may be made by calling or visiting the Welcome Desk up to 24 hours prior to the reservation.
  3. Individuals may reserve only one court for a one hour period of time; when that hour is completed and there are courts available for subsequent hours, an individual can continue to play.

Attire

  1. Use of proper athletic shoes and modest attire while using recreation facilities is required. For safety and health issues, unaltered, sleeved T-shirts covering the torso and shoulders must be worn while using any strength or cardio equipment. No mid-drifts may be exposed. Tops must cover chest and rib cage areas.
  2. Closed-toed athletic shoes are required; open-toe, open-heel, barefoot, or heeled shoes are not allowed in the cardiovascular, group exercise, and strength areas.
  3. Only family friendly swimming suits allowed.
  4. UREC Staff reserves the right to determine if attire is appropriate for use.
  5. It is recommended that jewelry be removed prior to participating in any activities.

Code of Conduct

UREC is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for patrons. The staff will proactively intervene to support an environment where all members and guests can enjoy the facilities and programs free from distracting behaviors. Membership privileges may be revoked without a refund, and the individual(s) will be escorted from the facility if behavior is deemed inappropriate.
