Dr. Kraig Schell, Program Advisor

Associate Professor of
Psychology
Ph.D., University of Cincinnati, 2000
My
research interests are rather diverse. For the last 10+ years I have worked in the
application of psychology to
the problem of safety
in health care
(i.e., medication errors, etc.). This line of study has led to numerous
interactions
with the industry as a speaker, researcher, and expert witness. I
continue to work in this area focusing currently
on several issues:
Understanding workload as it relates to error production, capture and reactions
Error self-reporting - how we do it, when we can't, how accurate we are
Orientations toward handling errors in different ways
Correlates of error awareness - dispositional, social and environmental
Despite
my personal predilections, I have also supervised research on other topics and
would enjoy exploring new
ground with
students who have definitive interests in different areas, particularly
regulatory focus and multiple task
performance.
